Hi,

At the risk of being flamed, but I simply can't find it back: Where to find a picture of a crack in a G2 body. I want to keep an eye on the black G2 I've recently (1 week ago) purchased as the 5th digit of the serial# is a 4 and no red marks inside the battery compartment

I have no idea about that which I am writing.
Thus, I hereby retract everything I just wrote.

Hopefully mine is an isolated case, but in addition to the side crack, my G2 also had a larger crack on the bottom which you can barely see in this photo, to the left of the serial# label:

Canon is in the process of replacing my rear cover right now, expect the camera back by the end of this week and will post a comment on how the process went.
