I'm trying to validate (to myself) purchasing the D60 since I have a couple of Canon lenses. I've been scouring the net for sample D60 images and unfortunately, most tend to be nothing close to what my intended use is (catalog-JJill/Chicos sort). Nothing against the testers (well done reviews), but images of Big Ben, Flowers and statues don't really help me in my decision process. If any professionals have any samples they would be willing to share, I'd would really appreciate it. Images that have appeared in Magazines (full page) would be really great as a couple will end up there.

Here's some fashion/glamour shots. I suppose I should include a WARNING since there are a couple of suggestive shots.

Would either of you be willing to let me look at a raw/orig .jpg? You can slap your © all over it and i'll destroy it once I look at.

Also, have you noticed any problems with sharpness or focus? I did a prior shoot using a borrowed D1X and noticed that out of 200+ shots, some had this weird quality of 'non-focus' where the subject seemed out of focus (which I was 100% sure of focus) but there wasn't a sharp point in the image (@250/sec/tripod).

Canon has a couple of downloadable pics from one of their regional websites, Canon USA, Europe or Japan, forgot which, of a girl wearing a hat with a lot of white feathers. I think it was more like a wig. You can download a 7Mb Tif file or a smaller Jpeg file depending on your bandwidth. I downloaded the larger file and was very impressed by the quality. Sorry, I forgot the URL. Do a web search with Canon and D60 as your keywords.

I prefer the bigger, but better tif file.

Thanks, I've seen that. I was trying to find some real-world examples by working Joe's (not that the Canon shot wasn't by one, but realistically, they probably spent hours on that one shot for promo), especially out in the field in a working catalog/fashion/people job. Like I said, one of my clients usually always goes to full page ads in a national magazine and I'd really like to see how a D60 would handle a clothing-centered shoot with that end result.

Just from what I've seen, I'm pretty well sold...I just the Sigma would hurry up and get out so I could see if that was worth waiting for the hype. If not, I'll go D60.

While the technology "sounds" good, do you really want to be stuck in a system limited by their second rate lenses? Look around, even though they make lenses for Canon and Nikon, do you see ANY serious photographers using their gear?

With the shots I posted. They were done with a Sigma 20-40 2.8. Not that bad in my opinion.

Well, I really wouldn't see it as stuck if get's the job done and the client pays, besides as a 'serious pro' I'd use whatever works for me, not what the other guys are using. Thanks anyways.

i have a 28-80 Sigma zoom. Feels good, looks good.

But in under two years of very light use the gears of the autofocus have stripped, and it will not be economic to repair.

Have you heard this happening on Nikon or Canon? I haven't but I may have led a sheltered life.

JaJa from Belgium, a highly respected semi-pro (extreme enthusiast) who has a large collection of lenses including L gear, raves about the sigma 50-500. Many, many "serious" (not foolish) d30/d60 users also love the sigma 15-30, and i believe the sigma 105mm macro is also very highly rated.

there are some absolute DOGS from sigma, but i believe they make a few (very well priced) gems, too.

not everyone chooses to go "L" all the way, we don't all make our living from photography.

I do make my living from commercial photography, and I use several non-mfg lenses.

While the Sigma 17-35 isn't as heavily constructed as a Canon L or a Nikor, the photos are excellent.

I'd like to make 2 points:

It makes VISUAL sense - modern digital bodies use only the center portion of the glass, which is of excellent quality, not the critical corners where a difference would be visible with a large sensor or on film.

It makes BUSINESS sense - the lens may last only half the life, but you can afford 3 or 4 of them for the same price. Plus, you're not afraid to risk damage getting a challenging shot, since the bill is much lower. Upgrading to new designs is also cheaper.
