D60 Availability !!!

I'm just one of thousands wondering when my retailer will receive shipment of the subject camera. Some of us have been waiting nearly two months now.

What I would really like to see is the DEALER'S order information ... in other words, when and how many did he actually order. My guess is that many questions would be answered with that info!

I had mine in less than one week from ordering it.

How much did you have to pay, if you don't mind my asking. I was in Ace yesterday and thought about putting my name on their list but didn't because I have a body only model on backorder at ecost from March 20 when the price was just $1829. I hate to cancel that order but today ecost told me Canon had told them it would be November before they get them in.

Now I consider myself a patient man, especially since I have the refurbished D30 to play with, but I still want the D60 and November is ridiculous. The D60 will be nearly a year old by that time. And besides, I'm going to Yellowstone in July. THIS July.

I haven't even heard of anyone getting the body yet. I think if it were me, I would just pay the extra to get the kit. Then you have all of the components to sell with your D30 or if you keep it, you have a complete backup. You might even be able to get a kit sometime this year :)

I LOVE my D60. Even after three months of playing with it. I am constantly amazed at the images it produces.

I'm sorry to hear your still waiting. I placed my D60 order on Tue 28th May. I was told it would arrive in 4-6 weeks. On Fri 31st May I got a call saying it had arrived as they'd had a shipment into double figures instead of the usual 3 or 4 they'd been getting.

I'm wondering what factors there are in this apparent randomness...

1) UK is OK for stock?! Are exchange rates making the UK more profitable at present, so we're getting more stock?

2) Warehouseexpress.com has just gained, canon pro dealer status, maybe they get priority. I also believe they are big enough to order in large quantities, without waiting for a customer to order one. They're probably shipping loads due to their deal... £200 off list price and you only pay 10% now the remaining 90% next year.

3) Customers are placing orders with multiple dealers throwing Canons distribution into chaos.

4) There's an old lady at the end of the production line who pulls the dealer names out of a hat and sends them whatever she has packed since the last tea break. :-)
5) Has production finally been upped hence the larger shipment?

On a side note, the early deilvery caught me out as I hadn't ordered a microdrive yet. I had to borrow an 8MB card off my brother! Imagine that, I can't even get 1 raw shot on to it so I'm shooting in Samll low quality mode just to get used to the camera.

I ordered the kit from one of the biggest resellers...and look at my original post...just how long I've been waiting!
Sounds like good advice, Mark. Thanks.
Think I'll check a few local shops tomorrow.
