I'm thinking the XSI 450 must be a total disaster since a comprehensive review doesn't seem to be forthcoming. I've heard grumbleings about some issues but what could it be to hold up the review this long?

There have been a lot of posts about this. Keep in mind that this is only one reviewer's review. There are many excellent reviews posted on other sites and other venues (while researching my purchase I think I read every one of the comparisons).

While, like anything else electronic, there are some lemons (and on any forum you tend to hear more about problems), overall the camera has received excellent reviews.

Search is your friend...

Simon posted several days ago that they are running behind, but there are no problems. They are simply trying to do as many comparative shots as they can, since there are several similar cameras coming out right now.

I believe it is a total disaster. I've hear rumors that when you try to set the AF, the camera explodes, and covers the user with squid ink. Apparently nobody has suffered life-threatening injuries, but a lot of fine clothes have been ruined. Also, I have heard that when the camera is dropped into water, it not only sinks, but it stops working. I think Phil and Simon are trying to figure out how to put this politely, and so it might take a few more weeks.

My xsi smells funny. Not sure why.

I think several users have been having this issue.
Every time i hold the camera to my face i get this unbelievable stench.

Then again,i really shouldve washed my hands after going poopie.

I've heard that if you press UP, DOWN, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, DOWN, UP on the four-way controller, the XSi will function as a full-frame 12 megapixel camera capable of shooting at 15fps, with a 64-shot RAW+JPG buffer. However, if you press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, DOWN, UP, it'll become a 1.3 megapixel camera that can only save TIFFs. And if you do UP, DOWN, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, DOWN, DOWN, it'll format your computer hard drives and delete all your precious photos. It's tricky, so make sure you get the sequence right. Then there's as yet-mystery sequence that can unlock the Brain Scan mode (BS mode), in which the camera automatically composes, focuses, and achieves superb results all from your merely thinking about taking the photo.

try this..

1. enter ' http://www.google.com ' in your browser.
2. enter '450xsi review' or alternativley '450d review'.
3. press enter
4. viola...take your pick :-)

5. if not satisfied, try #2 again, but use words like ' canon eos 450xsi' etc until desired cyber babble is on screen

6. failing this, go to a newsstand and look at the covers of photography magazines and see if any of them have reviews for the 450d.
7. If that dosn't work, go buy one and see if you like it.

No it is not a total disaster..it is actually a pretty fabulous package that delivers excellent shots.

"I'm thinking the XSI 450 must be a total disaster".
WOW the sky is falling!

dpreview posted that they are reviewing 3 competing cameras at present, that is why the 450d review isn't out yet. As others have said, there are many reviews out there, so I'll read them until this one comes out.

I'll be buying the 450d soon, and want to read this review just like everyone else, but I'll be happy to get a "good comprehensive review" even if it takes a little longer.

Don't worry about it. No camera has been rated anything less than above average since 2003 So, they are all good. Buy with confidence.

He's not joking, that really does happen. And it doesn't even make any sense, because it's a digital camera and shouldn't have any ink in it to begin with. Thats just how bad of a camera it is...

I'm also a bit worried about how much noise are in it's shots at iso 1600. Is there anywhere that I can see it be compared to the 400D, 350D, 40D, 20D, 5D, Nikon D300, G9 and my blackberry which doesn't even take pictures?

Yawn...

You read the review of the Sigma DP1, and all its flaws and shortcomings, and then you get to the end and it's "above average." Yikes, what wold an AVERAGE camera look like?

As usual, a really helpful, detailed, thoughtful review. I use these reviews as much for insight on how to get the most out of my camera as for confirmation of my own judgment (my last two purchases, including the 450D, got "Highly Recommended" from you).
