hi all, now i have a real problem with the new camera. it has now been almost 3 days since i picked up the C2100. now for the problem:

1. when i turn on the LCD screen there is a BLACK DOT in the upper right corner.

2. also the LCD screen, there is a DOT in the lower left corner. this DOT has no real color but looks kinda translucent.

3. again also the LCD screen, the upper left corner, there is a larger DOT that looks like a water spot, if you know what i mean.

are these "dead" or "hot" pixels? there not that bad, but they are noticable.

i have no serial port on my comp so i cant upload the pics as of now, but when i look through the EVF the pic looks perfect.

i will be getting a new computer in a few weeks, then i will be bale to upload pis form the camera. but for now..... do you think i should return the camera and get a new one?

thanks all!!!!

While a few stuck pixels are currently the norm for LCD screens, it sounds like from the number of problems, the camera might not have been new, and the water spot may in fact be a water spot.

It sounds like the LCD on your camera has some flaws. Mine has one green dot for instance. Given it is only on the LCD, if it isn't too bad, I would say live with it, since it won't affect the picture quality. Generally when this forum talks about dead or hot pixels, they mean pixels in the CCD itself, which will show up in every picture you take. If you bought the camera new (presumably from CompUSA) you should try to exchange it as soon as possible. When I bought mine, they said I had 2 weeks to exchange it. However, make sure you won't get whacked with the 15% restocking fee.

If you are going to do it, do it ASAP.

hi michael, see thats the problem i dont know if it is on the CCD or just the LCD cos i cant upload pics to my comp yet. but when i look throught the EVF everything looks perfect, just on te back LCD screen.

i did buy the camera new, from compusa.

i am probably going to return it anyway i just dont want to get a worse one, because everything else is great. any other recommendations??

I agree with Michael. My camera has a hot pixel, green, at about 1/10 second exposer. I have been going to send it in, but it has been so much fun that I don't mind tweaking a pixel in a photo editor. I edit all my pics to print anyway, and it is a very simple thing to do.

It seems you are having more than ordinary problems. Your camera might not be up to what it could be.

Good luck

You can magnify the picture on the LCD, and also pan it. If the problem moves it is on the CCD, if not it is on the LCD. Think that is right...

hey barbwire, this is what happens when i view an image i have taken on the LCD, i zoom in and pan around the image:

1. the black dot on the upper right hand corner moves where i pan around.

2. the water spot lookig dot on the upper left hand corner also moves where i pan

3. the translucent dot on the lower left hand corner is not there anymore.

the more i look and the more i think about it, it starts to really bug me. so tomorrow i am going to return this camera, unless there is another option. anyone??

thanks again!!

Be sure your lens is clean, but I'm sure you knew that. :)

The other option is to call Oly in the morning, and see what they think. I have talked to their customer support when I got my camera, and they were easy to get ahold of then.

I'm just a novice offering ideas. I would certainly persue this in haste as was mentioned in another post. I hope you have good luck. It really is a great camera for the money. I'm very pleased with mine. It's been a little wet, and bumped around a lot, and like every camera I have had before I'm sure it will give me trouble. That is why I got the three year warranty. Many say it's not worth it.

Good luck

Have you tried using the cables that come with it and checking it on your tv screen??

Wow you actually consider it acceptible to have to photoshop out hot pixels in a camera you spent $400 - $500 of your hard earned money on? No way Jose you need to excersise that warrenty of yours.

Somthing is amis here. I know the UZI is popular and everyone loves it. Heck I love mine but it took 4 cameras for me to get one that works as it should. count them 4! from compusa. One of them only had stuck pixels in the LCD and Viewfinder I could have lived with, but why?

Why settle for anything less then I expected for my money. There are simply to many companies, cameras, and choices to sell your self short.

newdigicam,

Take the camera back with a fully charged set of batteries. Sit there and test the new camera they give you before you accept it for exchange. If it isn't right ask for another. You may get a dirty look and they think your a pain in the ass, but its not your fault a defective camera feel into your hands. In the long run you'll be happier and better piece of mind if you do.

I plan to send it in, maybe around August. I don't see the problem in many pictures I shoot, so it does not bother me much. I'm in the middle of no where in Montana, and don't have the luxury of taking it back. It would have taken as long to have returned it to New York four times mail order than have oly fix it.

It's a good camera at a good price.

It really does not bother me... :)

I returned the 2100 I bought from CompUSA online because the CCD had
a hot, green pixel in all of my images, on the LCD, and on the viewfinder.
(hence, the CCD)

I'm just glad they exchanged it in-store without a problem. And I didn't
have to go through 4 cameras... my second one worked great. :)

hey all, ok i just got back from compusa and they did really give me any grief about, but i did have to show them what the problem was on the camera (luckily i left in charged batteries).

i got a new one and im charging my batteries now. bill your right, i have no shame in my game about returning products, but i just wasnt sure it was worth the hassel taking a half day off and all the just for 3 dead pixels on the LCD, but i did anyway.

would connecting the camera to the tv to view show hot or dead pixels on the ccd?? and by the way that never came to mind to connect to my tv. I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!
