Heron at Sunrise

A really stunning and inspiring shot (almost makes me want to get up for dawn....almost..lol).

Everyone else has already stated what I wanted to say about this shot. Am curious what your set-up was (any additional filters...lens set...digi-darkroom work). Would be great to know what helped you catch this wonderful shot.

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the fine comment, glad you liked the pic.... as for you other questions..
Shutter speed: 1/1600 sec
Aperture: 8.0
Exposure mode: Av
Flash: Off
Metering mode: Center-weighted average
Drive mode: Single frame shooting
ISO: 400
Lens: 85 mm
Focal length: 85.0 mm
Subject distance: 11.9 m
AF mode: One-shot AF
Focus point:

Image size: 2160 x 1440
Image quality: Raw
White balance: Auto

This was the set up for this hand held shot. No filters were used other than the UV that stays on the lens.

I did considerable Photoshop work on the shot over the period of several days, because the original had a problem... see original tiff direct from raw conversion below

Couldn't begin to tell you everything I did in trying to get the lens flare eliminated.

Thanks for the info about the shot. Though I don't own a digi-slr (yet!) its handy to know some settings to consider should I come across an opportunity like this.

Did a great job dealing with that lens flare. Comparing to the final shot is a job really well done.

Cheers
Richard
