Has high gas prices slowed you down?

The government should
have imposed higher taxes on gas also here to steer energy
consumption to more reasonable levels and used the money to develop
alternative fuels. Gas from oil is not forever. Best to get used to
it. Energy has been too cheap.
Unfortunalty Governmets are too greedy to steer the economy towards developing new fuels etc the extra tax ends up in consilidated revenue or for building more roads. It's not as if there wasn't a wake up call in the '70's about all of this and still nothing has been done, excpet recently some stupid initaives that have taken food and turned that into fuel, depriving the World of much needed food.

Governments the world over where once just lazy and wasteful, now the stupid decisions they make are dangerous.

Exxon-Mobile made something like $5.7 Billion in profit last quarter. I think that and maybe OPEC are the real problems.
Why is Exxon-Mobil making a profit a "problem?" They have an 11% profit margin, not exactly robber baron territory. Nikon ended their FY2008 in march, with a 14% margin. If you think Exxon is bad, I guess Nikon is the devil incarnate.

political discussion... but - do you "need" a Jeep wrangler with big tires, and a 3inch lift kit, mpg avgs, about 16mpg?

For the record - I drive an automatic V6 4x4 Tacoma myself, which doesn't do better than 22 mph, and feel guilty. Roughly 10-15% of my driving is done where my vehicle is appropriate and usefull - I do some whitewater kayaking and need to get to putin and takeout spots.

The hybrids take less gas, but are actually environmentally not
better due to their alternative energy input from all I'm learning.
I believe that you have hybrids mixed up with alternate fuels, such as ethanol, and electric vehicles that you have to recharge off the grid. Hybrids gain much of their efficiency by recovering the energy which is lost in braking. That is why hybrids gain more in city driving than highway driving when compared to the same vehicles with gas engines only.

I commiute 47 miles each way to work and believe me...it adds up to a whole lot more than $10 a week addditional.

It's gone up $1.50 a gallon since a year ago and the oil companies continue to post record profits.

They should provide Astro Glide or KY with each fill up.

There is nothing that forced people to buy bloated SUVs (and then slap "I Support the Troops Stickers" on them while they feed ever more money to countries that support terrorists that kill our troops, like Saudi Arabia).

That is a positive no and I do mean no, bought my Jeep 10 years ago I fell in love with Jeeps as a kid could never justify the silly thing so impractical, I told my wife if I go the Jeep goes with me, I don't need a ride in a Cadillac to get to the worm fields, throw my casket on top of my Jeep tie it down and lets go.

I'm like most Jeeps "rude, crude and socally unaceptable" Jeeps are the real 4x4 no P$#@@ footin suv with thier K-mart 4x4s, thats a 4x4 that can't get past K-marts parking lot, I can't even think of a vehicle other than a Jeep! besides I've only got a 130,000 miles on it bairly broke in no leaks doesn't burn any oil, if I can get the front fenders started the rest will follow, sorry folks I'm strickly red white and blue, no I'll never get rid of my beloved Jeep.

Poor mpg Rubicon:

I don't expect prices to come down on near future, I know how
Europeans had high prices for decades, but 10.00 wow! us yanks would
go nuts at that price ....
You would think so, but two years ago, wouldn't you have said the same thing about gas jumping from 2 something to just about 4 per gallon?
.....your right Americans have no
right to complain about prices, we always want someone else to do
somthing but don't interrup my life, no don't ask me to change.
I'm working with the change, changing my driving style, consolidate
trips, and shooting closer to home.
I drove 450 miles down interstates today and I'm going to retrace that route home tomorrow. I eased up on the gas pedal a bit - about 5 mph, but still a bit over the speed limit - and picked up about 8 percent mileage. It isn't hard to cut back at least a little bit.

Gas mileage on my bicycle is infinite. Only takes half hour longer each way to work and burns off my extra fat.

I wish I could take it to work everyday.

Try buying a transport load of diesel (7500 gal) every eight days. The fuel goes for:
20 - diesel irrigation engines
8 - tractors
2 - 18 wheelers
4 - pickups

Right now if I had time to take off and drive for a photo session, fuel for fun would be the least of my worries.

Hooray for you!!

Rubicon:

No way a rubicon would lose a Fj off road remember they call the Jeep trails not toyota or chevy or ford, Jeep clears the way so the others can make it.

Rubicon

:-))) last weekend few buddies of mine tried to approach putin of some NH streams in the FJ and in the Jeep... Rubicon folks lost the race... could be their WW skills though.... peace?
