K20 Price. How can this be ?

I have only ordered from Amazon and while not the least expensive they are extremely reliable. Generally, the shipping is free unless you want to upgrade. However, local stores, if one lives in a large enough city, will throw in extras. I got my 18-250 locally with a filter that they gave me at cost. I try to purchase locally, when I can but the tax issue is the killer. Occaisonally, the, local will have a so-called tax holiday. The biggest plus of buying locally is that one can test the equipment, hopefully talk to a reputable and informed salesperson ( at least where I shop) and return it, no questions asked within a specified period of time. For this peace of mind i will pay more.

You are referring to Photodynasty, not Beach Camera, right? It's a little unclear form your post.

How about Regalcamera.com, K20D is charging 887$, thanks for your
response!

I look at some of the responses from people who got burned, and I have to wonder what is wrong with them, doubly. First, they don't check ratings for companies, nor do they ask in various forums. Second, when they get the wrong item, or an incorrect item, and the company blows them off, why on earth don't they dispute the charge on their credit cards? Most of them seem to fold up and call it quits, take what they've got with a whine and a whimper and slink off. That's silly. If these scammers get enough disputes and chargebacks they'll have some real problems after a bit, because they cannot do business without credit card acceptance. Once the card companies start to consistently lose money on them, the CC company will take a sharper look at their business practices.

Hmm ... I only knew this sales behaviour from Airlines until now!

Ticket: 1 Euro
Taxes: 80 Euro
Fuel Surcharge: 40 Euro
(other) Surcharges: 120 Euro
Total price ... =;-o

(of course you still will have to pay a fee to be able to pay: Credit Card costs: 15 Euro ... but no other means of payment possible anyway)

Got the message?

;-(((

Hi Charles,
That's silly. If these scammers get enough disputes and chargebacks
they'll have some real problems after a bit, because they cannot do
business without credit card acceptance. Once the card companies
start to consistently lose money on them, the CC company will take a
sharper look at their business practices.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work exactly that way. The credit card companies are no fools --- they make sure they get their money no matter what. The camera company gets charged a fee for every disputed charge that's reversed. That's why these companies have to try to scam you so hard -- to pay for all the fees they fork over to the CC companies!

If the CC companies did not tolerate these scammers, as you point out, these fraudulent internet businesses would simply not exist. It is high time we hold the credit card companies responsible for their unethical behavior in allowing these scam artists to have merchant accounts. The CC companies come off as big heroes when the consumer disputes a claim and they immediately credit the charge. What most people don't realize is that these are all repeat offenders the CC companies are well aware of. That's why there are often no questions asked when you dispute the charges.

The fees they receive from these companies come directly out of the pockets of the poor souls who have been successfully scammed in other transactions. With the number of legitimate businesses around, you'd think the cc companies could do without them as clients.
