You did a great job. I am sure the client is very happy with those results. For speed, you cant beat lightroom, but the IQ of these images really takes a beating. With a camera as powerful and elegant as the D3, and crappy NX software, I would either shoot in JPG and post process in LR, or shoot in NEF and bite the bullet and take the time to convert to JPEG in View NX, then post process in Lroom. If you use the D3 Auto Iso feature, your exposures should always be spot on and PP in Lightroom will be minimal, and you get the most out of the D3 IQ wise.

My only criticism, since you asked for some, is that the groom
sometimes looks a bit stiff and awkward (in some shots not all). This
is obviously to do with his personality, but maybe you could have
jollied him up a bit.
Thank you Geoff for your comments...

You are right on the groom, but he had some problems related to his allergy... Right now pollen level is so high here and I guess he is an allergic to it big time... BTW - I was trying really hard... ;o)))

You are right on LR quality comparing to NX and I use NX when I need to print 20x30 or bigger, but for regular size prints - 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 - I can't really see the difference...

On shooting JPEGs - I was shooting JPEGs only until my second wedding in 2008... Not anymore... Now I am concentrating more on subject and composition rather than WB and exposure (well I still use custom WB indoors and watch exposure but not that crazy like I had to do with JPEGs).

I will probably give NX one more shoot soon and see... ;o)

Thanks!

I like some (most ) of your shots. Not to crazy with the wide shots on the close ups of the faces...looks a little funny but hey whatever your taste is.

Your keepers are a little low in numbers according to the amount of photos you shoot...from what you posted you shot approx. 1300 shots and only have 95 keepers, were the other 1200 shots not good??

On keepers - I usually put what I liked from the first look up to 100 shots... They get 1500-2000 shots out of 2500-3000 shots from 2 cameras (D3 and D300)... I put these photos online just as a little gift for them to share with relatives far away... ;o)

Very nice images. I am a little puzzled on a few though. Why +2/3 EV boost on some of those outside shots of bride and groom? I have had to fine tune exposure -1/3rd on my D3. I am surprised at your +2/3 EV. Like many others here I have noticed a definate tendency for the D3 to shoot to the right on the histogram, so much so I have had to make the adjustment.

Just curious. Nice work.

Very bright white dress on sunny day makes D3 to underexpose and I still have a "bad" habit to get faces exposed right since I was shooting JPEg only for years and this is my first year with RAW... Before (with JPEGs) - whites were usually blown, but faces were perfect... Now with D3/D300 DR - I can pull back highlights very easy in Lightroom... Another thing - I hate flash (D3 was used with no flash), so this is another reason to boost it up... ;o)

True about the white dress issue just a little surprised at that amount of adjustment. Lightroom does make it easy to pull back on the highlights. I'm shooting my first wedding later in the month so it will be interesting to see the exposure results.

Well, wait until you see it in the real life... ;o)

You are going to be surprised how low you need to go with groomsmen in black... -2/3 if not a full stop... ;o)

hi grig,

overall fabulous work. your style is very appealing and you PP tastefully done. cool perspectives and good mix of perspectives.

how hi of an ISO will you shoot on the D300 in a wedding situation? if im correct i didnt see anything higher than 1000ISO. are you keeping the D300 at lower ISO's because thats as high as you can live with as far as noise?

thanks,
david

Usually up to 1600 I have no problems... sometimes (rarely) up to 3200 (dead on exposure)... With D3 though I am not afraid to go all the way to 6400... ;o)

I'm just curious that you tend to shoot everything wide open.

Great photos, thanks for sharing.

Looks good to me. May be very central composition in some shots, but
overall it is very good.
100% agree on composition... Will work on it...

That's exactly what I am looking for when posting on dpreview and asking for C&C... ;o)))

There is ALWAYS room for improvement in photography...

Thank you!

I love wide open shooting... Isolating subject from the background and putting accent exactly where I want to put it...

If it would be zoom lens with F1.0 in the future - I would probably shoot everything at F1.0... ;o) I love shooting with my 50 and 85 at 1.4 but for weddings I found zooms better since there is no time to swap lenses... ;o)))
