Hi, All!
A brief question from a new user...(and hopefully a soon-to-be new D7i owner).

The Minolta 3600HS flash retails for about $249.95, while the 5600HS is available for about $449.95.

What extra features / benefits would I gain for the extra $200.00? Which do you prefer? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
John

Well like always it is a personall discision. I picked the 5600 becuase of the abilty to pan the falsh horzontelly. I will be using it to take pics at the Rocky Horror Picture show and dont want to blind the cast.........

But if you dont need to pan left or right well I cant see the extra feet being that usefull to anyone.....

Also I have heard of one other flash option but dont know much aboutit.

The possibility to use bounce flash for verticalal pictures might be the main decision point for 5600HS - professional flash for professional camera :-) 5600HS is of course more powerfull, too, but if 3600HS would have the same possibility to tilt the head into all directions, I would pick the cheaper one, but this is not the case ....

Hi -

I've been very happy with the 3600H. I added an extension cable because I do a lot of work with the flash on a bracket or hand-holding the flash. I like the results much better when the flash is moved away from the lens. With the cable (either hand-held or on a rotating bracket) you can bounce the flash regardless of camera orientation.

I'm in the same boat as you John. My D7i is on the way. I'd like to add to your question. Doesn't the D7i support a wireless connection to both of these cameras. Can someone explain how that works?

John,

As for the price: I ordered my 5600HS from PhotoKing yesterday for $319.00. In three days I'll know if everything went well...

Did you fix the extension cable on your own or did you buy a MINOLTA one? How much did it cost and how long is it?

If You are prepared to pay for the 5600 one option might bet to get a 3600 AND a SunPak PZ-5000AF. That way you get both the good integration between tha camera (with the 3600), and the greater power + swivel head (PZ5000AF) for about the same price. In addition You get a remote slave unit, and a spare unit when the batteries are low on one of the units.
