I'm trying to get a new 500/4 with or without VR but all shops I've checked so far are out of stock. I even seems to be impossible to get a 300/2.8.

has nikon abandoned the distribution of these lenses?

Just a thought; but have you asked the stores to maybe order one for you? These lenses costs an awful lot to keep in stock.
 
yes, I've asked some and they all said they don't know when they'll be stocked again.

Maybe all the long lens go to the D3 owners? Do they get special offers?
 
Without really knowing nothing about this, I'd say they're not getting any benefits and generally anyone wanting a long lens would use the D300.
