Got out to the park to shoot for an hour today...a welcome respite from much other stuff...and was amazed to see this very bold raccoon come out of the woods and climb onto a fence and then into the garbage looking for food. I was happy to have the distance of the H5 + Tcon since JP schooled me on these guys the first time I saw one in the Park almost exactly two years ago (albeit, in another location and high up in a tree). This was the best shot of the bunch and it's nice to compare the one from two years ago as I feel that I've become a better photographer and that's quite satisfying.

So here's the shot from today:

And this one's from two years ago (was the H1 that time):

They are so misleadingly adorable.

Cheers,
Charles

Did I school you? ;) I guess I warned you that if you see these fellas during the day there's a possibility they're rabid based on unfortunate incidents the last few years.

They are characters for sure & sooooooo very smart. When I lived in Chappaqua I hand-fed a half-dozen nightly with peanut butter-laden crackers. Very funny to see them try to get the peanut butter off the roofs of their mouths. Hope you get a chance to capture that on film.

They have the attractiveness of cats, the intelligence of dogs & the agility of monkeys. It's a wonder they haven't become #1 pets.

Congrats on these captures, I personally never saw a raccoon in Central Park, although I did have a neighbor who walked his 16 year tortoise on west 70th street every day.

You sure did school me, and it was when I originally posted the cute guy in the hole. Remarkably, that shot was taken on May 5th.

That would be some shot. Don't think I'll try feeding one that I happen upon in the Park, though :-)

They really are very appealing.

Thanks. As for that neighbor...now that would be a good photo :-)

Both are very nice but I much prefer the second one in the hole. A little WB adjustment makes it even better. Good shooting in both cases!

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.
