hi.
perhaps a dumb question:

shouldn't an IBM 1 gig Microdrive be recognizable in Windows Explorer, in the camera? if so...what am i missing? I have installed the D-60 software, and the IBM software on Win 98. Zoom Browser activates automatically when i plug in. I also have, but have not installed, a card reader.
????
Helluva Camera!

thanks.

No.

The D60 doesn't appear as a separate drive in the same way your printer doesn't.

The drivers weren't designed to work that way.

I'd hope they would co-exist....

But, I guess that might be asking too much :-)
Will I have to install the D60 drivers if I have the G2 drivers on
my PC & laptop.
Are they the same?

I have a card read that came w/ my 1GB microdrive. It came w/ a driver
so that when I insert my card into the card reader (USB), the computer
reads it like my G: drive. I then move or copy. Good luck!

thanks all. i also have the card reader, but have hesitated in installing it..one more gadget to break and take up space and also having to constantly 'handle' the MD.

but...if that is what it takes...i'll just be careful. goodness knows i handle the D-60 with white gloves (for now)

Robert, I would suggest you use the Breeze systems downloader program, which does what you want. I prefer to not handle the microdrive, but read files from the camera into the computer, and the Downloader (free) software works fine with the D60. http://www.breezesys.com/products.html

Now if someone would let me know how to get the speed of the D60 USB downloads to be better than 0.25MB/s (my Pro 90 USB gave more like 0.5MB/s via USB) I would be grateful!

Good luck, Ron.

Keep in mind that when you offload pictures through a card reader instead of using the software that comes with the camera, you are likely to lose the EXIF data (lens length, date, flash on/off, other pertinent data). My SanDisk cardreader cannot transfer that info the way it transfers through ZoomBrowserEX.

I have a D30 and I use a ZIO USB card reader. All you do is slip the microdrive in there and it immediately recognizes it as another hard drive. I simply copy and past off the microdrive to my hard drive, and after verifying I have them all, reformat the microdrive in the camera.

I've been doing it this way for 6 months and 5000+ pics with absolutely no problem.

I have used my PYRO firewire CF reader to transfer 1600+ images from my microdrive and I have never lost the EXIF data. I just used explorer cut and paste to put the images in a folder for editing.

thank you to all:

i will actually attempt the two solutions of breeze downloader and breezebrowser, and of course the card reader (i have a '6 in 1' gizmo).

i really do hesitate in too much handling of the microdrive though...i know myself and how i can forget the fragility.

guess i got spoilt using the Fuji software where the in-camera media was instantly recognized by Win Explorer.

again,
thank you.
