Will someone be nice enough to help me? I am confused...

Just get a tripod!

To test yourself take a macro shot with the camera held on a stationary object like a table! You will be able to see the difference!

Here is my first macro shot. Please tell me what you think. Thanks to
everyone for your help. This site is awesome!
Excellent!

If you really want to see how hard it is to hold your camera steady do this test. Tape a sheet of newspaper on your wall. Set up a tripod about 8 feet away. Set your camera for shutter priority at 1/60 with the IS turned off. Take a picture of the newspaper with your camera on the tripod and a second with out the tripod hand held.

Zoom in on the pictures for review and look at the print. You'll be able to see how important a tripod can be!
