... perhaps at lower ISO's they are clooose but the larger sensor, manual control, better menu system (IMO) and overall fun factor of the G7 are still there. The TZ5 isn't to shabby though for a smaller sensor camera IMO. That Leica 28-280 lens is shaaaarp and perhaps makes up for the sensor a bit. Here's a couple from a walk today - shot in Normal mode (not iA) at 28mm WA in 'Natural' color mode AUTOISO iExp on and -2/3 EV with some -very- light PP (much less than I needed to do with my TZ3)
ISO100 1/1000s f/3.3 at 4.7mm

ISO160 1/1000s f/3.3 at 4.7mm

Those images really pop with detail, Matt. I especially like the color
rendering in the Natural color mode. Can you tell me if there is less
in-camera sharpening in this mode, compared to Standard and Vivid?

Thanks for looking/commenting. Actually theses images probably did not need PP for the average person but I'm picky and tweak nearly every image from all my cams. I actually find the 'Natural' mode renders images that have good colors and sharpness right out of the camera - with only very minor PP needed/if any... Matt

I'm really liking the first shot. Nice composition, wonderful color saturation, great use of the wide angle. Just super!

I have a Tz3 and have been lusting for an LX2 or a G7- the opportunity to limit depth of field and set the shutter speed are pulling me strongly. But losing the great lens of the TZ series will be tough too... I'm gonna have to start wearing cargo pants to carry the various cameras!

Again though- really nice photo.

PF7,
nice shots, but EXIF for your images says 'standard' mode,

From my personal experience and what I gather from other TZ2/3 users one might do well to experiment with the colour mode settings.

With 'natural' PP is mandatory, in 'standard' a light touch of PP is often advisable, while 'vivid' is on the verge of being a bit overcooked, but quite OK when time for PP may be lacking, e.g. when distributing image files after an event to friends.

I'm not sure how but yes these were in Standard mode. I had been using Natural mode and don't remember changing it -but- I guess I had.

With the TZ3 I found that Natural mode had the best results.

On the TZ3 I'd agree... but with the TZ5 less PP is needed, yet there seems to be better colors and sharpness right OOC. I remember PP all my TZ3 photos - some quite a bit to get them to shine.

Thanks for looking/commenting. The WA lens adds even more to the camera's 'fun factor' - no doubt about it!

I'm with you! - trying to find an easy way to carry the camera's I need is a daunting task - LOL - one has the lens I want the other portability and the other manual controls (one just can't have it all in one cam!)
Again though- really nice photo.
Thanks - I like that one as well.

Love the first shot Matt - definitely a keeper.

The more I use this camera, the more I feel I did the right thing in choosing it over the G9 - I certainly had more control with the G9, but the IQ is a lot closer than I ever thought they could be, and for my needs, the added flexibility, greater lens range and slightly smaller size/weight were more important factors than control. If I need that, I'll just pull out my DSLR.

I notice: No gain on the first and Low gain up on the second. Can you tell me what this is referring to as your setting appear to be the same. Could this be something from the iexposure which you had on?

The second one was shot almost directly into the sun and the other shot wasn't - I guess the iExp reacted accordingly - plus the focal point may have played a role as well. That plus the ISO on the first shot was 100 and the second shot was at 160.

Thanks Keith - I thought it came out decently. I like it also because my son is in it.

If this camera had manual controls/A/S modes then it would be even better. I would probably sell my G7 - but the G7 still continues to dazzle me at this point (as is the TZ5 starting to) ... Matt

is actually working in that second capture. Shadow detail in the trees seem to be decent. Your first shot is the 'winner'... nice lighting.

Love your composition Matt, nice perspective.

Could you let me know how to upload pics onto the forum, I would like to "inflick" some of my efforts onto an unsuspecting world.

Thanks,

Gordon.

Yes I believe the iExp worked to an extent plus the ISO was at 160 on the 2nd shot - I did some light PP on both photos as well. Thanks for commenting - it seems there are a handful or so of new TZ5er's posting pics/commenting here in the past week or so.

You first need to size your photos to 'web' size (I do mine a big bigger than some at 1024 or 1200 size) You need to find a website (that's not blocked here) and simply upload your photos there (I use Pbase) Then just 'click' on the photo (first make sure it is at the size you'd like) then right click and go down and click on the 'properties' field. Last step is simply copy and paste the 'address' field into the message you post here... hope this helped... Matt
Thanks,

Gordon.
