What tele lense would you buy?

The new Tamron 70-200/2.8 should be worth waiting for...it will sell for $699 US...don't know what that is in euros. That combined with a 2x teleconvertor...

Hi,

it's not clear for me what features you are looking for.

For candid shots a fast prime could be intersting for you, for example a 2,8/135mm. Or the 2,8/100mm macro. Even the 1,7/50mm could be worth to consider.

You need a long range for flying birds. Take a look at the 500mm f8 reflex. It's very easy to hand hold and the focus is very fast.

"For birth pictures, most have a fast AF" Birth o0r Bird, I see others see a BIF. If for BIF the Tamron 200-500, will also need a tripod/monopod, can be handheld but it's almost 19" long all the way out. For birth, as in hospital, child, Minolta 1.7, Sony 1.4, Minolta Macro 2.8 - 100mm doubles as a portrait, zoom with flash 16-80Z, or faster yet Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 EX. Hope I didn't misunderstand your question....

Hi,

these were for "birth" or baby shots.
Hi,

For birds the Sony/Minolta f/8 500mm mirror may be of your interest. Or the zoom lenses from Tamron 200-500 or Sigma 50-500 or 170-500 being the latter considered as of lower IQ than the former.

The Tamron is around 800 Euros, the Sigma 50-500 around 1000-1100 and the 170-500 about 750-800 Euros.

The mirror can be found used in mint conditions in a range of perhaps 300-500 Euros (take care for the filter holder + ND filter!) or the new Sony, AFAIK about 550-600 Euros.

I would not use a tele lens at all for birthing pictures. A moderate wide-angle lens would be much more useful... unless you're planning to be standing really far away from the mother and all the action.

Another thing to consider, I understand that a lot of doctors and/or hospitals no longer allow photography or video during births. My daughter is having a baby in June and she was told no photography allowed because of legal/liability issues.

Sorry my fold, I mean Birds not Birth.
Oh! That's totally different! :-D Sorry, if I had read the other replies before posting my response I would have realized that. No problem, it made me laugh.
