Ordered a P&S camera from ABE's of Maine over internet. Then, got a call from their salesman. He hassled to sell me an extended warranty. I had a hard time to get him shut up. Now I wonder if he will go out of his ways to ship me a defective returned junk ? I feel like to cancel the order. I will not order from ABE's of Maine again.

I should have ordered from B&H and paid a little more for the peace of mind !!!

When you discovered that abes of main was really in brooklyn didnt that ring some alarm bells ???

That is exactly what I would do, cancel the order and order from a reputable company. Abe's has a very poor track record, and BH Photo would be a great choice.

P.S. I am NOT a salesman or even associated with BH, I am just a very satisfied customer of theirs. Also, did you happen to know that BH Photo has a representative here in these very forums? Mr. Henry Posner frequents here quite often, and one of the reasons he does is to monitor customer satisfaction. That should tell you a lot in itself.

How can you possibly ripped off by a company from Maine?

See, theres this little neighborhood in Brooklyn consisting of a store front, which is called "Maine" by the natives. Who are the natives? Why the natives of the store front!

If you didn't order any extras, then your camera is probably on indefinate backorder.

Abe’s of Maine makes no secret of the fact that while they stated in Maine, they are now located in Edison NJ (not Brooklyn as some of our ‘knowledgeable’ posters have claimed).

When I bought my Sony A200 two months ago, I went in to their Edison store. I was impressed with the selection and the staff. No hassles at all, no attempt to up-sell.

I dont know if this Abe came from Maine, but he did have a big place in Brooklyn on Coney Island ave for many years. Then, poof, he just upped and moved to Jersey.

Maybe the rent got to him, maybe he was beaten by more reliable and trustworthy stores such as B&H or Adorama, I dont know.

What I do know is if you aint local to him, and his prices arent way lower, dont buy.

Unless you are dealing with B&H, Adorama, J&R, stay away from other NYC retailers; It just aint worth the hassle.

Abes of Maine WAS a Brooklyn store who has now set up a location in NJ. Their old place on Coney Island Ave is still there, although I haven't seen it open in a while.

They have become a larger company and as such have risen from negative numbers to respectablility.

I wouldn't shop there.

They have a terrible reputation. They routinely advertise the lowest prices

on the Internet, but then pull stunts like Bait and switch, or insist that you have to
buy overpriced extras, or must buy a better battery for $60 to $100, or buy a
very over-priced extended warranty, or always something more to raise
the price way up.

Some of the ratings web sites have had to stop ratings from customers because
the employees of Abes of Maine and similar outfits were pretending to be
customers and giving themselves great ratings to counter-act the stories
from customers like you.

Just Google "Abes of Maine" to get a whole lot more gory stories.

I ordered a TZ5 from them yesterday and I got it less than 24 hours later. No hassle. No annoying phone calls from sales people, very fast service. I was kind of worried ordering from them because of some of the things I had read online but I had no problems.

Do you work for "ABES of MAIN"? It appears your 5 posts are only
about ABES of MAIN.
Started a couple of theads to.

All his posts are about the wonderful Abes of Maine!

Gosh!
