I've been neglecting my UZI lately while playing with my other new camera. The UZI is still my favorite. Other cameras have come and gone but the UZI has been here from day one. A peace offering to the UZI gods. Does anybody know what kind it is?

It's a finch of some sort.

HG,

How strong of a tele would you need to have the 707 (with it's 5mp + 5X) on equal ground with the uzi (2.1mp + 10X)?

I heard people put the B300 on the 707. True?

PS - nice shot!

I believe that it's a House Finch, but I know that it's a great photo.
Yep, it's a house finch. They're more common every year as they are an "aggressive nester" and tend to coexist well with people (as opposed to birds that stop hanging around when their favorite woods or pasture becomes a new housing development). They can be quite striking and you've caught a nice image.

I think for a 5MP, about 4x zoom will roughly equal ( or slightly better) the Uzi at full zoom. Of course, you'd have to crop the 707 picture, but it would have more pixels on the actual subject.

Thank you very much. I have taken a lot of pics of this bird and now I am going to burn them. LOL
Great shot.

The digital zoom on the 707 is better than most but it still isn't good enough. My TL-55 1.4X works great on the 707 but it still can't compare to the UZI. I would need a good quality 3X for it to match the UZI. I heard the B300 works good on the Sony.

Funny how you start seeing things for the first time after you buy a camera. I never noticed them before

That is an absolutely beautiful picture. I love the way the focus is pinpointed on the bird and the foreground and background are "blurred." Nice work. I have a 3000 that I use mostly but I am just starting to break the UZI in. I'd settle for one picture like that. Nice work.

Apologies accepted but totally unnecessary. Go forth and sin no more. :-)

Now get up at 5am tomorrow and get us a full rez shot of those racoons. :-)
Don't sweat using the other camera....

but I still haven't forgiven you for resizing your 5:30am racoon
shots and overwriting the originals!

:-)
Twice in one day? I thought love means never having to say your
sorry. Inigo, I promise not to do that again.

And so should I for not using my Uzi much since I got my my E-10...been doing more scenics and close up shots lately so I been using the Uzi's big brother...

Great shot! This is the stuff the Uzi was made for...can't wait to get out to the zoo and some concerts to take advantage of that great zoom lens...

It's nice to have the best of both worlds huh? Uzi for the long shots and megapixels for the other stuff...

(I see you still like your 707, cool! did you get your E-10 yet?)

The ones around here don't have this much red in them so their easy to mistake for the sparrows that are common in this area.

Maybe the males get more red when they are breeding.

No I'm still learning the 707. My finance manager and money guru says I can get the E-10 next month. Used up my allowance on the unplanned 707 buy. She would make a good chipmunk the way she hoards money like nuts for the winter.

Wow, HG! Very, very NICE! I sat outside all morning trying to get bird shots; I even put out SEED, and out of about 30 photos I think I may have gotten one good one! And that was using the A-200. Keep clickin' dude, you're one of my favorites!
