Used to the macro capability of the Coolpix 990 I was a bit disappointed in the macro range of the Uzi, so I bought the Hoya 3 lens macro closeup kit. (I should have bought it when I bought the UV filter and step up adapter from 49mm to 52mm (I have Nikkormats that use 52mm filters).

Went out late this afternoon and tested just the +1 lens. Here are some of my results. Click on the thumbnails for larger views:

Hi Isabel,

I checked out your macros... very nice! I got a set of 3 lenses from Wolf Camera here not long ago, their store brand( I'm sure they're probably made by a "big name") anyway... I've yet to try them out but I plan to this weekend. I liked how close you got in on the Ice Plant. I have one of those in my yard. I will try the +1 lens and see if it comes close to yours (o:

I just love my digicams! You can see things in a whole new way, in as little time as it takes to upload them to the PC. Thanks for sharing!

Wow Isabel those are great.. I was going to post some macro shots but mine look like they were taken with an old kodak brownie camera when compared to yours !
How did you get that much depth of field ???

I was using the +4 and didnt get anywhere near that depth of field...I was using f8 the shutter was around 200 and used the built in flash.. I tried all different combinations of exposures...here I will post an example..
Thanks
Bob

Wow! The pictures are awesome!
You are right. I would also like to get them for my UZI.

May I ask how much you paid for the lenses and where you bought them? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, RichO...I've always had a special love for macrophotography. May have something to do with the fact that the lens sees stuff we don't see with our naked eyes. I also am quite nearsighted. When I take my glasses off I can stick my nose right up to something and see incredible detail. I'm so grateful that my "mature" eyes haven't lost all of this ability!

As far as focusing with a manual SLR...that's another story. I'm glad autofocus exists!!!

Isabel
You have a truly lovely spirit for the photos you take express that.

As you are already are aware, the smaller the f stop the greater the depth of field. I suspect it's a combination of the plus lens power and zoom that's responsible for the lack of depth you find. I'm amazed that the built-in flash didn't wash out the image...it squelches quite well, doesn't it? I'm discovering something new and delightful every day about this very well designed camera! (C2100uz) j You might want to try using the widest angle with a +1 and see if you get more depth. I'm totally new to using plus lenses. My Coolpix 990 is able to get extremely close without any additional lenses.

Thanks, Greg

I'll try for some bugs later today. My sweet Louie da cat got me up at 4am, so I'll have a bit of a wait for daylight! The set of Hoya plus lenses I got was really cheap. I think I remember about $28. Go for a set...you'll have loads of fun with them. I get my filters and lenses from 2filter.com.

Thanks!

I just checked the exact price at 2filter.com, where I bought them. They were $28.81...Hoya. The shipping is a stanrd $4.81. If you spend $50 (not too hard) the shipping is free and the service is fast.

I have to admit that straight out of the camera the pictures are pretty wishy washy, but I used "tone balance" in Micrografx Picture Publisher Pro 10 to increase the saturation. It is an amazingly useful feature of that program...I just don't know what the equivalent would be called (or if it exists) in another program. It is extremely easy to use...just play with three sliders. Not technical at all!

Thanks ... I think it finally is sinking in as to what the difference is... your subjects were much larger so you didnt have to zoom in as much for full frame...I see said the slow blind man...I am zoomed full to get full frame and you were closer to no zoom...not ignorance .. just slow
Thanks

Isabel!

How beautiful! I just bought the close up lenses, also. Your shots are GORGEOUS! I especially like the clematis, the rhodies and the scabiosa, all in my own back yard as well. Aren't they beautiful? I use the close up lenses for my UZI and my E100rs. Anyway, look here to see one of my now 'infamous' shots taken with the E100rs and a +2 lens:

Thanks alot for your post... Last summer I sold my Coolpix 900s to my sister and bought an UZI. The UZI is great for everything but macro. It does ok, but the old Coolpix was much better... I was taking some photos of butterflies today and could have used the + lenses you are talking about... Thanks for sharing the information... I'll have to check into getting some...
