Does anyone use Teiffen 2.0x teleconverter(43mm)?

Thanks for those links, now I know that the 43mm Hakuba tele/wide lens are a no go... bummmer..oh well I guess I'm just down to the Oly A28 and A200 49mm lens if I can find them and I'll search more sample pic or reviews about them.

I'm afraid that in the end I might end up getting the canon lens, If it only not for the 58mm blocking the AF light and the viewfinder the choice will be a lot easier.. :)

Can't find the adapter to fit the Canon G2 at my local Circuit City. They have the TFN 00201 that says it's for the Nikon Coolpix and Canon G1/2 but it dosen't fit. What is the model number on Circuit City's site?

Greg
Hi,

I would like to know which mount adapter causes less (or none)
vignetting:
G2 + 2xTiffen + ...
  • Tiffen adapter 43mm
  • Lensmate 49mm + step-up ring 49mm-43mm
What would you advise me?

Greg, I bought mine from a Good Guys store. I hadn't thrown out the packaging yet. Mine has the same number - 00201 and had two separate adapters, for Nikon Coolpix 995/990/950/900, Canon G1 (or G2) A10/A20. One of the two works perfectly on my G2. That's strange that the one you looked at didn't fit. You tried them both?

But the tiffen adapter only costs $9.99 at cirucuit city.

Greg--

That's definitely the right one (same part #). I didn't think it fit at first either (I couldn't get it to screw onto the Tiffen MegaPlus). I then figured out which end fit my G2 and very slowly and with it lined up real straight I tried attaching the Tiffen MegaPlus to the other end. It worked. Now I keep the Tiffen Adapter and MegaPlus attached to each other and unscrew my Lensmate when I need the Tiffen.

Cheers,

GTF

I also ordered the 00201 Item from circuit city. Hopefully, it will contain 2 adapters, one for the G2 and the other for the Nikon. I will let you know once I recieve it. Sounds like Richard P, had 2 adapters included with the 00201.

Has anyone else ordered the tiffen lens adapter from circuit city?
This is what you need:

bought the 00201 item and it's for nikon only. At the Circuit
city website it say it's for G1 & G2 also but that's a mistake!

Thanks.

I have the package from mine here in front of me. It had 2 adaptors plus another ring that must be for the Nikon. There is another number on here that looks like a date - 07/01. Maybe some Circuit City's have older packages? Chances are ordering via the net will get you the most recent version.

Thanks group, the Circuit City I went to had everything mismarked. I went to Good Guys and picked up the correct adapter and while I was there I got the Tiffen 2X lens, very nice and good pictures.

I'm sure there are many forum members who will be very interested
in your test shots and commentary regarding the three lenses,
Kazutoku. We will be patiently waiting. If you buy a larger camera
bag, you might as well throw in a review on it also. ;-) Seems to
be a frequent hot topic on the forum. ;-)

Hi, Sorry for keeping you waiting for some days.

I've just tested four lenses; Canon 1.5x, B300 1.7x, Raynox 1850Pro 1.85x, Tiffen 2.0x.
The condirions are the same for four lenses as follows:

1/640 sec, f/5.6
Mode: Manual
Metering: Evaluative
ISO: 50
AF mode: Continuous AF
Drive: Single frame shooting
Self-timer: 10 secs
White balance: Auto
Flash: Off
File size: 1,562KB
Image size: 2272 x 1704
Saturation: Normal
Sharpness: Normal
Contrast: Normal

I think Tiffen is a very good lens compared with Oly B300 or Canon, but vignetting at the four corners of the picture is real disappointment. Because it was cloudy yesterday, the lighting condition might not be good. I'd like to take photos with Tiffen on a fine day. Raynox 1850PRO is not good. The distortions can be seen around the picture. Please look at the four ummodified pictures. Click the letter "album".

And have a look at the other tele photos on my website.

Thank you very much for the samples! I want to take a closer look at them tonight after work.

Do you have the Tiffen adapter? I'm using it and not getting vignetting like your sample.

I'll get back to you later. Thanks again!

No, I use Hakuba 43mm adapter I bought here in Japan. The reason why I use it is simple. I cannot get Tiffen adapter in Japan. I'm looking forward to your comment.

Kazutoku, thank you again for the test shots. Please see the clips from your images I've posted. Your test has satisfied me that the Tiffen 2x is a very good value. Everyone now has a basis for comparison between these teleconverters. You have done a very good service for the forum members!

Is it just me or does the Tiffen look the best in terms of corner sharpness and CA (or maybe tied with the Canon but with 2x vs 1.5x)??

One time I did notice some CA (at least I think it was CA) with the Tiffen vs the bare G2 lens was in a shot of one of those "STOP sign ahead" signs, with the red centre, black outline, yellow exterior with another black border. There was a bit of a colour halo around the black edges with the Tiffen, but I'm wondering if any of the other lenses would have done any better. I'm just about to head out for the weekend, but I can post the samples when I get back.

Those were some great examples of the various Lens performance. I have one question though -- All the pics I have seen of the Tifen 2x teleconverter have been taken at maximum optical zoom, can this lens be used through the full zoom range of the G2 or does it have to be used with the camera set to max optical zoom to reduce vignetting?

Thanks Again,
Jim
I have the Canon lens, B-300 now and in few days I'll get Tiffen
2.0x lens.
So I'll post here the original images I'll take with G2 and three
lenses.
Please wait for a few days though there may not be discernible
differences among the images. Until the test of three lenses,
please look at comparisons between Canon 1.5x tele and B-300 and
the images taken by using some teleconverters. (But the images
undergo resized unsharpmask and are not original.)

I use the Tiffen 2x with the Tiffen adaptor and even at full optical zoom on the G2, get just a hint of vignetting (VERY slight). Anything less than full (optical) zoom increases the vignetting. I still prefer it to the Canon because of 2x vs. 1.5x. Others can comment on the 2x with the Lensmate or Hakuba adaptors.

Cheers,

GTF
