XSI vs XTI

I never tried the 40d because I felt it was out of my league...but I gave in yesterday and fell in love with how effective the focus feature was...That alone would be enough for me to make the switch from 450/400 series.

Thanks for your input.

That can switch AF points quickly and it moves the image around when reviewing a photograph. Plus the 40D has a vertical grip that has some sort of wireless control - maybe wireless flash control built-in. I'm not sure if the XSi's grip has that. Probably unlikely it would. Canon makes clear diferences with their model lines.

I'm also concerned about the decreased eyepoint distance. The VF of
the XTi is great -- I'm not so sure the XSi will be?
You obviously haven't looked through a 40D or a 5D viewfinder. The XTi has a small 0.8x viewfinder. Yes the XSi viewfinder has a 2mm less eyepoint but it has an upgraded 0.87x viewfinder and iso in the viewfinder all the time I believe.

I just wanted to say thanks for suggesting the 40d...
I don't know why I resisted trying it for so long but am really happy I did.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! What a phenomenal upgrade from the Rebel!
It's so easy to navigate through the settings...the AF is outstanding...!!
Couldn't ask for more.
Thanks!

Hi Joe,

I can't believe the focusing was better for you on the 40d than the 5d...
Was this your personal experience or heresay?

Talula from Montreal :-)

Look like Camtecphoto.com have the XSI for $949.95CAD with the kit lens.
I just sold my Rebel XT and need to purchase another camera for small
gigs in April.

Should I wait for the XSI to be released in Montreal, Canada (BTW -
any idea when that could be??) or do I buy the XTI so I can start
practicing with it?

The differences in the side by side comparisons seem so minimal...

Which one of these cams do you prefer and why?

Thanks,

Talula

I have an Xsi on order. What I've found in the four years I've had my Pro1 is that I never look at the top LCD. I find everything I need on the view/LCD or EVF without needing to take the time and motion to look at the top of the camera.
the top LCD for reading the shutter and
aperture is far better than reading off of the a color LCD which is
use to display the images. The 400 and 450d/Xsi don't have this.
