Ive read some people have been unhappy with Sony service so I though I would post my story about Sony service.
I brought my DA into the Sony Store here in Edmonton Canada

They were very nice and helped me out right away. They took my Cam and said I would hear from them in a while. So I thought sure like 2 weeks or later.

2 days later I got a call they were going to give me a new sealed box one. I said that was fine, but what he said next shocked me. He said he would drop it off at my home so I wouldn't need to come in to pick it up!
Is that nice or what?
Guess it goes to show sometimes you can get good service from Sony.

So I got my DA back today the person who dropped it off said he was sorry for the delay. I did not have to pay for anything. Ive looked at it and every thing looks fine so far.

Oh PS. The problem with the DA was a defected flash.

You do know that Canadians have the reputation in the rest of the world for being polite and helpful.... you live there, you should know that ;-)

Glad everything worked out for you

Friends, to get good services from Sony, I'll think of moving to Edmonton Canada.

Sparky...

What this illustrates is Sony's lack of any customer service guidelines around customer treatment. My guess is the Sony shop you went to has local management (plus Canadiens and Aussies are typically the worlds most polite peoples) that is concerned about THEIR reputation and customer service appeal.

You are one of the lucky ones!

Stay in Edmonton!! I want to move to Calgary myself - go Flames!!

With all service, there's one very important factor and that IS the human factor. If the people WANT to help you, they will, despite of hitty company policy.

Now, some companies are always better than others and from what I understand, Sony is one of the worse. Add Micron Computers to that list and Soundblaster by the way. Norton and Traveling Software on the software list.

Anyway, no matter how good service is, if you get a crummy person, you're crewed but as Sparky noted, regardless of how poor reputation Sony has, he ran across someone or even a whole office that was good and that's really what it all boils down to.

I had some super experience with Canons service centers many years ago, especially the one in London but as always, it always depends on who you're dealing with.

From what I've heard about Canada, I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Canon service in Spain for instance sucks but I'm sure it's better in other places. As I said before, it's not always just a company, but the people.

HP has always been very good to me but that doesn't mean that every person at HP is great.
Generally though, I'll swear by HP and their printers.

George

Not sure if that's a good reason to move but I hear the Canucks (is that how you spell it) are good people. Now, that might be a good one.

As for the snow and cold, I LOVE IT! Gimme your address, I'll be right there

:)

George

In spite of a nice “human factor” experienced talking to people from Sony service department, it is really hard to praise Sony for service after receiving camera from service work with fingerprints on the coated lens, not operational laser diode and dust and chips inside the lens assembly. And my experience doesn’t seem to be unique, right?

And KL, don't move to Toronto, so far, so bad!

Hi Sparky

My DA has been ided as having DLS, even though I avoided every thread ever written about the subject. Anyway, I may decide to have mine fixed, if I determine that the risk of something else going wrong is small. Just would hate to be without my camera for a day! Anyway could you pass along the specifics about the service center you used i.e. address and name of technician. You can email me direct or leave it in this thread.
([email protected])

(As well, Wes reported very good service from the sony service center in Calgary. As for TO, well its TO right?)

Now as for all Canadians being nice, essentially true, but home delivery is not expected.

And as for liking snow....snow in May is only acceptable on a mountain top or in the arctic or antarctic circles! I went for a walk the other evening and there is still snow in the ravines. My flowering plum has been in suspended animation for more than a week. I WANT SPRING! Heck, I'd settle for skipping spring and heading right to summer.

I have a photographic memory, but I always seem to have the lens cap on.
