I know this is an old thread reborn by someone, but come on...

The thread was 'reborn' by the OP, and yes he's still dreaming, unless he's on the 5D replacement design team.

Regards

Seems that I will be right with my opinion some months ago !!!
Hi RVO,
are you sure you meant 24-70/2.8 IS?
Since 50/1.2L has design flaw, this is the lens I'm after just after 200/2 IS.

Any other lens tips you CAN share? :)

There will be a 5D plus and there
will be an upgrade to the venerable 24-70/2.8.
The 5D plus specs will beat the current 5D specs.

That's pretty much all we really know.

I've thought for YEARS -- and I still think -- that taking the EOS3 into digital would be all Canon would have to do to hit the advanced amateur sweet spot in digital.

IF they ever come out with a successor to the 5D, one step down from the 1D series, THEN they should call it the 3D and provide everything the 3 has, plus appropriate sub-1D capabilities, and call it done.

A LOT of us would be very happy with that.

No joke, just reading this forum and analysing what people are saying
about the 5DII and new lens upgrades....ok, they are based on wishes
and rumors, still no facts.
People assume that the new one will have 16mp, but that is not likely. Canon has been pretty consistent in increasing pixel count only incrementally at the low end. No leapfrogging here. The 10D/20D/40D line went from 6 to 8 to 10mp. And the 450D is 12mp, which means the succesor to the 40D will probably have 12mp. So, the 5D is more likely to have 14mp than 16. Otherwise the 5D mkIII will have 20mp. That would bring it within a megapixel of the 1DSIII.

Please please canon bring us a 24-105l IS f2.8 lens. It would be perfect on the 5d/1ds3 bodies.

today I mostly be wondering what went wrong!

"Until the end of all recorded time"..to quote the Bard.

And as soon as the rumor surfaces the forum will light up as an old flash bulb. It is of great curiosity that these type of posts receive the greatest responses. I frankly think it's sad to waste time on such speculation. The 5D replacement will be here soon enough and there will then be it's replacement and it's replacement's replacement ad infinitum.....It's enough to tempt me to grab my Leicas load some Tri-X and walk into the sunset.

Actually, the 5DII (assuming that there is going to be one) will likely derive it's sensor technology from the 1D Mk III much as the present 5D derived it's sensor technology from the 1D II. Meaning that it will have similar pixel density to the Mk III, which will put it in the neighborhood of the 5D.

If you're going to quote Shakespeare, as opposed to paraphrasing him (in which case you wouldn't use quotation marks), quote him correctly. It's "to the last syllable of recorded time".
