You would do better to use only the few best EF-S lenses and L glass.

I did not prefer the D300 due to noise grain shape, image colours and cost.
My D300 test was perhaps too quick without any adjustments, but acceptable for my purpose.
If I had to gamble purely on equipment I would trust Nikon to get it right sooner and more often. My proof for this was all I needed for sharpness was an 18-70mm, D40, SB600. Go!

--I have the 400d and want better image quality. I am trying to decide
between a 40d and Nikon's d300. I could sell my Canon 70-300mm IS and
Tamron 17-50mm along with the 400d.
