In another thread there is lots of talk on the Bigma regarding long shots, and some say it is soft, which it is most definately not, and some have questioned the necessity of the broad range. This was one of my first Bigma shots at 50mm, plenty good enough for me. If you have any Bigma shots well below 500 mm I'd like to see them....here would be fine.

You picture and topic is testament to the beauty of this lens. No, it certainly isn't going to replace an 18-250, but look what you did with 50mm ? If one's genal aim is telephotos while walking about, it's great. But, pull it in and you still have a decent 50mm.

And at times I have wanted it when I had my Canon 300D...But...Really I feel its only going to benefit those shooting outside. I might be wrong but its nothing you could use indoors very often right?

Nice shots from everyone...
Nice series of images. I especially like the wedding formals. I
can't see why anyone would not want to have this lens...

You know, I get frustrated when I see a few knock the Bigma or question its IQ and abilities. Not because I have one, many others have one and do much better than me, but when I see the range of shots you posted here and the very fine IQ, it just makes me think some here need to get their seeing eye dog some new glasses. Those are amazing, and you did a great job on every one.

Nice shot there for sure! I'm really impressed with what everyone is posting here, the Bigma has some fine shooters as owners, and these shots are proof of its value as a long and short lens.

I'm also surprised by people who use IQ as a factor against the Bigma. Weight and size perhaps, but it's still manageable for all day handheld use. Many of the shots I posted were from all day photo walks. The wedding formal in front of the old building was taken right at the end of a very long walk with Lance, Ron and Chris amongst others from the forum. It was just me walking up a set of stairs, seeing a wedding pro setting up a formal, so I framed the shot and fired. There was no time to change lenses, and no need to either.

I think a lot of the bias I've seen is based on results for this lens on other manufacturer's bodies. On the odd occasion I've forgotten to turn on SR and scratched my head wondering why I was getting blurry shots. Well, guess what, 1/120th of a second at 500mm handheld just doesn't work without some sort of stabilisation. We're pretty dang lucky to have in-body SR here in Pentax land.

Well, you already have a tripod AND a monopod, so the next logical step is the bigma:-)) I've had mine since the weekend and tested it at various focal lengths. It produces good results throughout.

I was talking to a member of our camera club about the Bigma and it's IQ. He shoots Canon and wasn't getting good feedback about the IQ of the Bigma. He doesn't doubt the information from me regarding the IQ of the Bigma, as I told him about the Photo's posted here.

We both started wondering if due to the weight of the Bigma, etc, the in-body IS of the Pentax is helping produce sharper pictures than the Canon?

Do you shoot with IS on and would this make a difference when using the Bigma?

Do you shoot with IS on
Yes
and would this make a difference when using
the Bigma?
Definitely.

Although, the tiger shot I posted was 160mm at 1/50th of a second handheld with no SR. But I did lose a lot of shots that day because I'd forgotten to turn on SR.

Possibly explains the poor IQ reports from Canon users. Your shots do look good.
