Can any auto focus Minolta Maxxum lenese be used?

Seems there are some decent deals to be had on pre owned lenses.

I'm referring to the older MAXXUM 35mm auto focus lenses.

We know. See here for the most comprehensive lens database for Minolta Maxxum (35mm and DSLR) and now Sony (DSLR) lenses.

Short answer though is that if it's a Minolta Maxxum AF lens it'll work with Sony alpha DSLR's. Some older 3rd party (Sigma's I believe) AF lenses won't work though.

Thank you. I was a bit confused.

Looks like it's almost time to start a pawn shop search for lenses.

My list of lenses to get include a decent tele zoom, 50mm 1.7 and a 35mm or wider prime. maybe a decent Macro type lens.I can live with the kit lens as a walking around general purpose lens.

Any other lens you need to multiply the focal length by 1.5 to obtain the actual focal length. Your 28-75 becomes a 42.5x101.5
