OK, so I just got my DP1 from a shop in HK. Battery charging as I type ...

But ... my manual is in Chinese.

Anyone got any links to an English DP1 manual e.g. in PDF?

Cheers,
sfa

Have not seen any online download for same, only the brochure:

http://sigma-dp1.com/main.html

Why not e-mail Sigma - am sure they will send one to you.

Thanks Zone8,

I have emailed the support team in Japan -- will wait and see if anything happens.

Meanwhile: to those who have knowledge and/or a manual they can comprehend:
1) Are there several focus points and (if so) how can one switch between them?

2) If I just want to switch on the camera to review images, is there any way of doing that without taking the lens cap off?

In the meantime for your delectation, here is my first DP1 picture post (stormy, dark and broody in HK this morning) ...

Cheers,
sfa

1. In the shooting menu (ISO, etc), the first option on the second page (or option 8/15) is AF Area. Press the right arrow to select, then select the focus point you want (out of the 3x3 grid) and press ok when finished.

2. Press and hold the playback button and you should be able to review the images without taking the lens cap off.

Cheers!

Enough of these accomplished and (semi-)professional photographers! Enough already!

Q: How does the DP1 go like in the hands of an average Joe lunch-break snapshooter on an overcast, soulless day in a grimy, over-populated, pollution-filled city?

A: It looks like this:

Quite impressed so far. If only I could RTFM!

Very nice, if I can get result like yours consistently, I will be very happy. I am lucky to have the english version. So just post again when you need help, and I am sure we can read it for you until Sigma publish the manual online. This remind me a few years back when I lost my D100 manual and have to go out and pay for one.

Hello mskad,

Check your inbox.

BTW, DP1 has similar field of view as Pentax DA21 (16.6 x 1.7, cf. 21 x 1.5). In the next couple of days (sunshine permitting) I will take out my K10D and DP1 and just run a rough and ready comparison for color/distortion/contrast purposes (NB. my DA21 has the same f/5.6 - f/6.3 issues as yours does). Watch this space.

[Sigh] And when will we be seeing your (superb) ASP for the GIMP? ;-)

Sorry, but I had better stop at just the one before this becomes a time-consuming flood!

I am sure that Sigma will have the manual on the DP1 website in due course, perhaps in all sorts of languages ...

My apologies again.

I was thinking of doing exactly the same ;-) Actually, based on the samples I have seen here, I already know that the DA21/K10D will have a hard time against the DP1 (corner sharpness).

LOL! Actually, if time permits, I might give it a try. I know that the GIMP uses Python as scripting language and as a matter of fact I am a big Python fan.

Agreed. After only a few days of use, the DP1 has become another reason to sell my DA21.

Please do give it a try ... I, for one, will readily cough up my hard-earned dollars!

Three more DP1 shots taken in Hong Kong's perennial gloom ...

The first was a look at how ISO800 turns out:

Secondly, I tried a monochrome conversion of a random street scene (probably over-processed it, but I enjoyed messing about with SPP!):

Thirdly, a shot of a hydrant located sensibly in front of a shop selling alcoholic spirits:

Promise I'll do much better when the sun comes out!

Post on website for people to download - for say a month (by then Sigma may have posted it, so an interim solution). I don't have the DP1 but as long time Sigma user (since SD9) would like to help.

I have placed the English manual - in pdf format (one as that, other as slightly smaller ZIP file) on the ZPS website - for a couple of weeks only or until Sigma make available on their own website if before then.

Only done as a service to users who perhaps, like OP, got his DP1 with a manual in a different language

Reason for only a couple of weeks is am due to change over server hosting soon and sometimes, that can cause a hiccup in the works and I shall be away at that time, with only dial-up connection, so many thanks for continuing the service to our fellow enthusiasts
