TZ5 HD video sample.

Autofocus is off for both videos. It focus on when you press the
shutter half way, then it locks the focus (AF was off).
i meant whether to keep AF on (AF would sometimes hunt when not needed) or off(can't focus again if zoom to tele> ...) and whether panasonic would fix the AF problem in the next revision

Hey,

Thanks a LOT for those videos. Video quality is really what will make me decide whether to buy this or not...

Would it be possible to have another sample with some sound (maybe even quite loud) to see what the quality is really like? On your samples, there is a lot of hissing background noise which is probably due to a high gain (since there is nobody talking etc...) so it does not help to see how good the sound actually is!

Do we have any clue whether Panasonic are using the same old 8 bit Mu Law algorithm or something more modern for sound encoding? Surely HD video should suggest they also updated audio recording...

Thanks again,

I would be very interested in knowing your opinion of the LCD during difficult shooting situations, i.e. bright sunlight and indoors at night. Thanks for the videos.

The LCD tries to gain (grainy looking) and lower frame rates with low light. When theres enough lighting (sunlight, or a really bright light source) the LCD shows a nice smooth frame rate.

Overall, I think its as good as any point and shoot.

That's pretty close to be zooming in to 10x. Maybe it went out of focus because the lens can't even do it. Does it lose focus like that outdoors when zooming it at something further away?

That was fast, thanks !

I think the fact it becomes out of focus at the end is only because auto focus was off and the full zoom got so close the initial focus was not good. I suspect if you would do a zoom on a far away object outside, the focus would always be infinity and it would stay sharp.

the next big quation is how good is the movie mode in low light situation, how dark can it get before it becomes unusable, and how much noise do you get in the dark situations. From what the Panasonic site says, they use Pixel averaging in video mode (like the Sanyo Xacti did first) whih improves the low light capabilities. (instead of simply boosting the gain of the pixel in low light, they use the extra pixel from the 10Mp sensor, and average the information).

Thanks again a lot for these.
