Is anyone using the Kata H-14 with the D300 and 70-300mm lens? I am trying to find out if the following 2 configurations will fit: 1) D-300 with 70-300mm lens attached in the main compartment (only with hood reversed?) and 16-85mm lens in side compartment; and 2) with the 16-85mm lens on the camera, would there be room on the side for the 70-30mm lens? Thank you.

Thanks for the links. I had done a search and seen the excellent review, but can't tell whether the 70-300mm lens will fit in the case attached to the D300...

It will fit in the main compartment but I do not know about the side compartments. I have a different type of small Kata which holds the D300 with 70-300vr on the body and a 17-55 next to it. Really tight fit and I have to take care taking the camera out. bought it for my wife to use with her D40x, 18-200vr mounted and 18-70 with it. I use it quite abit particularly if I am just taking out the D300, 17-55 or 28-70 and one small lens (50 or 85) , 800,spare bat.,filters,mem. card. Can take it to restaurants parties etc.

I really like Kata, very light weight and go0d protection but I am getting Think Tank H-20 and H-30 for Body and one lens attached. The 70-200vr 80-400vr, or 300 f4) fits. My two camera kit will be those two bags.

The H-14 is not a small bag.

Tommiejeep,

I was also looking at the Think Tank H-20 to hold the camera and one of the lenses on the camera. It looks as though the Kata provides more protection but may be too big for me. Haven't decided. Which Kata do you use?

C-58, would not recommend for 70-300vr and another lens. With just the 70-300vr mounted(hood reversed) and some small stuff(spare bat, filters,MC,etc) it would be fine and easy to get the camera in and out. Rumours of H-16 but that is going to be a big bag. The thing I like about the Think Tanks is the fact that they are extendable(that is why I am going with them for the 70-200 vs the lowepro 75).

I have a VestedInterest photo vest. Great! With one or both Think Tanks and a ProSpeed belt I can carry all of the bits and pieces an a couple of lenses in the vest and bodies in the holsters. Only thing on my back is monopod or worst case, tripod. I do not like weight on my back. I prefer even distro. around my torso and waist. This is NOT for low profile urban walkabout !
