Question: How to change exposure

I took a picture of my girl on S30. I didn't know it then but it seems there's no AE-lock on S30 in Auto mode - too late now.

However, the subject and composition is great - too valuable to go into Digital heaven.

I have its JPEG and would like to change exposure - specifically, to lighten-up her face. I'm a newbie with regards to photo-editting - I have trial-version of PhotoShopPro.

Can anyone give me a basic run-down on what I need to do to achieve the changes? Would be much appreciated.

[BTW.The reason why I bought (last week) my S30 is primarily because of this web-site.]

Hi Alex,

There is not much you can do in Jpg, due to it's 8bit limitation, but that doesn't mean that it can't be improved.

As you are new to PS, start with playing with the Level's command. Bring up the levels box, and shift the slider at the bottom to adjust the contrast/brightness.

Regards, Jo'

If you'd be so kind to post the photo, we can attempt to help you correct it - step by step. If you don't have webspace to post it - you might try pbase.com. Posting the largest file possible will allow us to make a better edit for you.

You might try new layer via copy, select screen mode, then adjust the opacity. This method will affect the entire photo..... Or, get a good selection on the face, maybe feather the selection, copy to new layer, select screen mode, then adjust opacity....ta

Thank you for the offer, however, the photo is private (not rude, just private) and I am reluctant to post it on the Web. I have downloaded PhotoBrush and will play with it.

If you have some experience, which image post-processing software would you recommend (other than PhotoShop, ofcourse)?
