I got my hands on an F100fd! As you might have read I live in Japan and the cameras are already out at a few stores here. The images taken from the camera at high ISO seem comparable to the F31fd at 6 MP, but I guess you could say that about the F50fd too. They are probably the same IQ wise, although the F100fd has IS, 28 mm wide lens, dynamic range etc. I didn't try the DR but it will be a good feature. The F100fd seems a big bigger in my hands. Not quite as wide, but a bit taller and heavier than the F31. I didn't like it but would get used to it.

I looked online and a few people on ebay are already selling them. They are not booking the orders, rather, they got them from Japan and are shipping them to the world! I want to do the same! However, do you guys think people would pay over $400 for something they can get next month for $350? I personally wouldn't. Not that I'm a cheap-o, but, if I know it's coming out next month I would probably wait. But some people are rich, so...hmmm...?

Would you consider sending one over at approximately cost?

Other guys here might want one too.

... and this seems to be the least expensive and hey you can even get black if you'd like. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-FUJIFILM-FUJI-Finepix-F100fd-F100-fd-12MP-2-COLORS_W0QQitemZ380008439421QQihZ025QQcategoryZ146258QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem ... Matt

Man this is really tempting to get the black one, but I learned my lesson buying the F50 right away on an impulse and promised I wouldn't do it again with Fuji until I saw some samples and reviews. Hope some of you guys get one and share some high ISO and lens tests with us soon though.

Any chance you could post some comparisons between it and the F30?
I'm especially interested in seeing whether they are equal when the
F100fd is set to 6 megapixel mode.
Hey even the F40/50 comes close - downsized to 6MP's - to the F31's 'native' 6MP output. It's close but I would think that the law of physics would always be on the F30/31's side at higher ISO's - even downsizing and PP can't make the F50/100 completely equal to the F31's output. -But- it's still respectable - at least on the F50 (not sure about the F100). Though in actuality the F40 is likely your best 'bang for the buck' if you'd like a better screen, SD slot and FD - and yes it is probably closest to the F30/31 at higher ISO's... Matt

It's easy for me to say because I only paid $111 for my new F50 (eBay) but to be honest - other than lens softness at WA (right side) and a bit slower write times - the F50 has actually been better than I expected it to be. And the F50's review here at DPreview is really not that bad IMO. What did/do you not like about your F50? - BTW at least it has A/S modes, a simple mode dial and an EV button... Matt

can you take a wide shot with detail in each corners? It looks like F100 is going to have similar IQ as F50. If it has sharp corner at 28mm, I think it is still a winner.

At that price you should be happy with your F50. I did a bunch of side by side tests though between mine and my F30 and was sorely disappointed. The IS barely worked, when I even did notice a difference in testing. The biggest issue I had was low light noise and vertical banding in high ISO shots. I use my F30 for video a lot too and it's great especially in low light. My F50 displayed the same vertical banding in mid to low level videos and it drove me nuts. I did love the build quality and looks of it though. Right now the wide angle, improved noise performance (expecting between F30 and F50 high ISO quality) and longer zoom are really selling me on it. Also hoping the IS will be improved. And, being a Sony SLR shooter I love the Dynamic Range Optimizer and that feature on the F100 could be similar which would be awesome.

can you please tell me
what is the f100fs Price in Yen ?
(Especially Osaka)

Thanks

At 6 mp, the IQ is better on the F100fd, no ?

Well, resizing, even on the F30, will reduce some of the noise and any blurring (if any...see 2005-6 Canons). It would be like that on any camera, though. however, since most of us don't need a 12 MP, it's kind of nice knowing that if you take 6 MP you'll have a image with, well, half the noise that was in the 12 MP picture. Oh, the F100fd lets you take 6 MP FINE too, even though that isn't its max resolution. I'd never use it, but nice to have the option

Personally, I don't like the black because it scratches easier. Some people don't care but I'm pretty anal about scratches. On the bright side, though, a black marker will "fix" those scratches for ya! ChiSoxFan, shoot me a mail! [email protected]
