Last night I covered 1999-2002 in messages here in the Olyfc forum.

Now granted I did not read every "Can someone tell me where to" or "Doe the work with the if you get a " or the "Will Everyone Shut UP!" messages....

But I did see the turning points in this forum. In the beginning it was really a few early adopters and the messages were almost all techie stuff with an almost Droid approach to the answers.

When the digital camera began to enter the prosumer world with a fervor then more and more of the questions were pleas and cries of help to those "techies" from the beginning days.

Later some of those "newbies" became semi-techies, but they remember when they were newbies so they began to be the "threads" that created the "family" aspect of this forum.

Every family has its disputes and even this one had to have the "father" aka. Phil Askey (owner of dpreview) come to spank the misbehaving ones and set the law down.

During those times the forum suffered and the family did too. A few people went on "Being There" for others in public and behind the scenes.

Some just consistently provided technical information and provided the "anchor" to the technical quality of the forum.

I saw repeatedly...Barry Carter,Maxven, Misha, , newby, Forrest, Sandman, Bob S, Juli Valley, Daniella, 3DTim, B A H, Dwight1973, kim r, Jim Kelly, Debbie Lothes, fsw, kwood, DomDP, UZ'pShootERS, Roberta, Matt Chase, Brian,...

I believe Barry Carter (2,448 msgs, 17 msgs per week, 2.7 yrs) is the member with the longest tenure and is still active with us.

The first Olyfc "collection" of photos was here when Bob S. asked everyone to post their favorite photo of 2001.

Please excuse me if I missed your name. Many folks never started a thread, but they posted responses to threads, so I might have missed them as I could not read all the messages - now 206,000+ messages in 26,000+ threads.

There are many in the Olyfc Hall of Honor...

I am not qualified to name them all, so if I missed someone please help out by adding the ones I missed...

Thanks for posting this link again RichO. It sure does bring back memories. I wore that link out when I was dreaming about getting my UZI.

And Marty if I didn't say it at the time, I would like to say thank you for all the hard work that went into that.

Debbie
I just realized that Marty was the one who posted one of the very
first reviews of the C2100UZ.

I, too, am a new member here and you've provided terrific insight into this forum's history. The links to the 2001 best photos was wonderful...as were the photos! The feeling of 'family' is immediately apparent as soon as you 'walk in' -- it's almost as though there's a greeter at the door welcoming each and every one of us.

Thank you all; you are truly special people. I'm lucky to have found this forum with your talents, knowledge and your warmth.

Hugs to you all,

Judy
aka laLady

That's a great link Debbie,
I wonder if Jim has it on his links page??
I've got to add Fritz (that's Fritz...without a last name) to the
list of people that have been so helpful. Here is a link to a site
that everyone will enjoy. A lot of work went into this site. It
really helped alot of people at the time.

...dvt43!!! The man with the biggest collection of accessory lenses for the UZI/E-100. He tried them all out individually or stacked and posted the results here saving the rest of us a bundle of money. :-)

As far as bringing the fun to the forum I think most of the credit goes to newby. I used to wake up every morning checking his posts before going to work. It made a nice start to the day.

There are many others I could mention. Probably too many so I'll leave it at that.

While the numbers of his posts aren't high, the comments of Lin are by far the most rellevent IMHO....As far as I know he's the only one that has all the cameras & lenses along with the photographic knowledge & has been able to relate my particular cameras results & features with the higher end cameras...He should deffinately be on this list long before me....

Maxven, glad you brought that up about newby because he has been the greatest at putting a smile on my face for a long, long time. Always positive, always upbeat, always normal -- I think! Oh, and always helpful! Thanks, newby!

goes to newby. I used to wake up every morning checking his posts
before going to work. It made a nice start to the day.
