First off, this is my opinion only as an amateur. I am strictly posting this to help guide others.

A week ago, I purchased my FX-35 through Amazon at around $320. It was an exciting moment to be getting everything is such a small package. Let me say I was very disappointed with the overall picture quality. So disappointed, I am prepared to take a 20% loss on the overall purchase because I didnt keep my original packing to an additional battery I purchased from J&R. Thats totally my fault, but should say alot about how I do not want to keep this camera!

To be upfront I own a Nikon D50 and a Nikon CoolPix5200 both are solid performers and have been happy since day one.

The FX35 camera seems constructed nicely and is perfect size for your pocket. The biggest reason for my unhappiness is that every picture I took turned out very grainy.....and I tried all the settings. Trust me I spent hours reading the manual and trying all settings - everything to avoid the trouble of a return.

For me I thought the technology had advanced with the "compact size" since my last purchase of the Nikon Cool Pix 5200 but apparently not. I am always up for comments and recommendations but for now it seems like I need to stay in the NIKON lineup.

Going to look at the Nikon P5000 tomarrow. Also I will never buy another camera without having seen it in a store and talked to someone who has worked with it. I will avoid listening to hype about a newly released camera :)
Thanks hope this helps!

Good for you!. I never depend on the hype, or the slightly biased reviews. Or even the people who buy them, misery loves company you know. Except for ME, if i own it, and it SUCKS, I will tell you so.

The large increase in sensor mp, is the principal cause for the slight graininess. But to tell you the truth, I have come to like it, reminds me of days of old; 35mm film that is. :)

Three old outdated cameras, Two Fujis, and a TZ-1.

I was hoping the technology had advanced and improved with compact cameras. It doesnt appear there this camera (FX35) has improved over NIKON cameras made over 2 years ago. The grainy picture days should be far gone. Maybe the D50 has spoiled me, and was hoping for quality of a SLR in a point and shoot compact camera!

The only SLR quality compact you'll find is the Sigma DP1....But most compacts will satisfy that 4x6...

Good luck on your search!

I just read what you wrote in the comments section of the camera database:
"Grainy pictures even on the highest 10 mega pixel settings"

That sound odd, to say the least. You trash the camera with dubious allegations and without showing a single picture. That's not to say that I am convinced you're wrong and I too have my doubts about the FX35 but you didn't help at all I'm afraid.

I purchased the Cannon SD870 Today & so far have not encountered any grainy pictures - Who knows maybe Panisonic just made a bad Camera, but for now they lost my faith and Cannon has my business!
Sorry for no pictures but I trashed the pictures and am never looking back now!

I don't believe a word you or Mark say without proof.
You don't have to believe anything anybody says. And they don't have to provide pictures for you. If you want to look at FX35 pictures they are not hard to find on the web. People have been posting links to fX35 photos on this forum for many weeks now. Try flickr to start with.

Don't forget to check the EXIF data on the photos to verify that they are from an FX35. Of course EXIF data can be forged as well. I guess you'll never get proof. It's probably better that way, you can then base your opinions on whatever fantasies are running through your head.

And I hope you'll stay happy with it.

My point was this: Saying that pictures look grainy EVEN at 10MP shows a lack of understanding that puts your evalutaion of the FX35 in a whole different light.

Were they grainy viewing them on a computer monitor? Or were they grainy when you zoomed in to 100%?

I'm just wondering because if they look fine on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, then I'm fine with it.
