Help, I just got a S330 for my mother in laws 50th wedding anniversary from B&H Photo. And you all know that means I have 7 days to return if defective. And you all know if I don't make my mother in law happy, I am in big trouble!!

So, I note that at lower light levels (indoor at night with regular lamp lighting) that the LCD shows a fairly high degree of noise....kind of like static on TVs when we used to get channels over the air waves. I don't see anything like this on my Canon G2.

Can any of you other S330 users confirm to me that this is normal and that I should not be worried that I have a bad example?

Thanks in advance for your help. This forum is amazing!

Yes, the LCD is grainy in certain situations, more so in incandescent lighting. If you take a shot though, it should look OK in the LCD.

Thanks Olga. That is about what I experience. Any other S330 owners want to comment?

The same goes for the S200. It's the same. It's normal. The picture is what counts :-)

PS: If you have bright sunlight the lcd will show "vertical streaks" in the preview mode. Again, this is normal. Canon mentions this in the manual somewhere too.

Luckily, I got the new B&H Photo deal that comes packaged with a Sandisk 128 Ultra card. Its quick!

I didn't get an extra battery though. There may be some regrets there!

The noise on the lcd is normal. I noticed this with my A40 in comparison to my S300. In lower light situations, the lcd shows boosts the signal from the sensor to give a brighter display. This is an advantage since it allows you to better gauge the exposure.

Hi Mark,

I just bought S330 last friday and I can confirm that the LCD look grainny
indoor but once you are outdoor which have sufficient light, the LCD look good.

When I read in the manual, it said that in the upper indicator, green when it is ready to shot, but I do not get green, I only get orange.

How come I have seen someone said that once it is green, mean its ready to shot. Can some one calrify on this?

Well, nothing scientific with this. It seems nice and quick relative to my Canon G2. Comparable or perhaps a little faster (I have a Ridata 256 for my G2). Probably because file size is so much smaller. Less than 1M vs almost 3 for my RAW files.
I didn't get an extra battery though. There may be some regrets there!

Thanks for all the replies. I think my camera is OK.

For DN. Green on the focus square means it is in focus. Yellow means it is not. Sometimes if you are too close and not in macro mode, or if you are attempting to focus on a subject without varying contrast (all one color for instance), these cameras seem to have difficulty locking on a focus. Try ensuring that the focus square is partially on different texture/color surfaces and it seems to work well for me. ALso, in full auto mode, the S330 has some sort of artificial intelligence program to find focus. I don't really know how this works in all situations as I have only played with the camera for a few minutes as it is a gift.

Orange means the flash will be used. Check out page 34 of the manual.

Thanks Mark and OlgaJ for the respond.

But I still cant get the green in upper indicator even when I did not use flash. Or I misunderstood that there is not green light in upper indicator?

With my S330, the green light comes on when the camera has enough light to take a flash-less photo and I have not set it to a forced flash setting. The manual says you hear 2-beeps when focus is locked. I've never heard two beeps with my camera.
