--I have been told not to use my manual focus 85 mm F2 Nikkor with my Fuji S1. Will the same be true with the Nikon D100?

As metering information will not be sent to the camera, you will have to set metering manually. Otherwise I see no reason you can not use the lens. I also think you can have the lens upgraded (privately) to achieve that capability. Do a search onlens upgrade and you should find that web site.
