Bird id anyone? Pretty thin DOF at 283mm and at close range. Poor thing seems to have lost its feet:

Myna birds are not indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands. Brought there as talking pets long ago (some say they are far better than parrots in this regard), but the escapees do what birds do (not to be confused with bird doo, which is also something they also do do).

I especially like the triple-layered clouds in the top shot, Inigo. A scene that if painted, looks unrealistic. Nicely spotted and well exposed.

The only test of an image is the satisfaction it gives you. There simply isn't any other test.

It is amazing! Great DOF! Wonderful capture!

Degustibus non disputandum est!

Great shots, although the foreground on the first one is a bit distracting, I still like it. And the bird is fabulous. Didn't anyone tell you that you can't get shallow dof with 4/3rds cameras???? Good thing your camera doesn't know that, either!

the bird but I like that image the best. I'm pretty sure the ocean is
the Pacific.--
I think you're right about the ocean. I'll need to consult some solid sources though, as I've already misidentified an almost 3 mile high mountain. :-)

I think the bird shot is one of those that shows what the camera is truly capable of doing. Unfortunately, I still need a lot more work getting it to do that more often....

Bird Looks like a mynah bird. im no bird expert, just a native
hawaiian former resident.
I think you're right. Thanks.

I happen to think so too, but attribute most of it to the camera -- pretty sure this was just a quick grab when I noticed him nearby.

Thanks for your comments.

So what is your na bird doing in Hawaii? I guess if you don't myna, it don'ta matter.

Thanks. It didn't look that realistic in person. I've always had an interest in clouds/cloud patterns -- don't think I've seen anything quite like that before.
More island "magic" I guess.

You're right, but the coast was pretty much like that everywhere ... jumble of rocks... and then there's this thing over there with "white rock graffiti" -- people take white rocks (or paint them?) and spell out all kinds of things on the lava fields -- especially alongside of the roads.
And the bird is fabulous. Didn't
anyone tell you that you can't get shallow dof with 4/3rds

No, it doesn't (thankfully), but in all honesty it's not a head and shoulders or full body shot with a close background either. I do give the camera most of the credit on this one .... it "hit" and hit well.

Too bad I could coax the little guy into standing on some plexiglass. :-)

Yes, you really nailed the focus on the Mynah! Great shot! Too bad about the poor thing's feet, though.
