This is a survey feedback for Nikon, who may or may not be considering to add a swivel feature to the LCD in the D400. We can always give feedback whether they decide to use it or not.

As you know, the Nikon SLR's are compact and stylish, have good layout and are very 'user friendly'. The company does NOT sell to users who fall for silly gimmicks like print buttons, rotating wheels or other gizmo's :P

So with this in mind, would you like to see a swivel LCD design in the future on the D400 or other Nikon DSLR's?

I am voting no to the swivel! because I already like the design and can see the LCD from any angle already, so theres no point, for me.

Just one post per user for this thread...

Lord Guru!

i loved the swivel on my cp8800 & always wanted it on my d-50 - d-80 now especially on my d-300. ever want to take good landscapes? getting down in the dirt for that great low angle shot is what i'd be doing with a swivel. there's no nice green grassy fields to lay in here in the desert - only dusty stuff that stays with you & your gear for the whole shoot.

I agree Jack,

My old Olympus E-10 had an articulating LCD and it was great for low and high creative angle photography. Also for having the camera in your lap at parties and such for candids. Even with the 3" LCD on the D300 you could not see the screen with the camera tucked in close to your body at waist level...

If Nikon is going to have LiveView they may as well have an articulating swivel LCD. I tried the one on the E-3 and it's fantastic and very sturdy and does not take away from the rugggness and how solid the body is. If you don't want to use it you just keep it tucked in and it's never a concern...

I'm still loving and using my D200 for another year or two and skipping the D300 so I'm really hoping that the D400 (or whatever it's called) has this very usefull feature along with a by than improved LiveView...

I want an SLR not some dodgey hybrid

that is what people were saying two years ago about live view on the DSLR, that is was a P&S thing, why have it on the DSLR.

If it gives as fast as through the viewfinder focusing - yes, why not? Else, no.

I bet instead of a swiveling/articulating LCD they could make one that simply tilted up or down 30-ish degrees without compromising any size or weathersealing. That would be enough for me.

It might not be technically easy on a DSLR, but ever since I bought a Canon S1 superzoom I've realised what a great addition this feature can be. That fully articulated screen just made life so much easier in all sorts of situations. In fact the screen's flexibility made me think very differently about the way I took pictures, opening up some really interesting possibilities which I normally wouldn't consider.

Those who like lying in mud or carry a ladder with them might have less use for it. :-)

I much prefer the "cleaner" look of a fixed LCD, and a non-articulating LCD will never break off. It looks cheap in my opinion. Also, a good LCD has a viewing angle of almost 180 degrees anyways. Its probably a bigger deal for PJ photographers where they may have the camera above their head in a crowd or something.

My first SLR was an OLY E-10, and it had live-view and an articulating screen. I really liked it. It came in handy from time to time. I would welcome one on a new Nikon, but its not a deal breaker.

If you like what I can do with cards, wait til you see what I do with the limes.

As an owner of Sony R1 I'm desperately looking forward to a replacement, a proper dSLR without the lousy limitations/behaviour of R1. Olympus E-3 is fine by it's swivel design, otherwise not, Sony with it's dual sensor design is nothing for my needs either. If not Nikon will bring one, who then? Canon...? Oh, my...

not needed

it should reflect actual metering and allow 720p output over hdmi with no setting symbols and AF area overlay (crop to 16:9 is okay) and no jolts.

Kind regards,
Martin
