Hello it's been awhile. Just wanted to say hi and post a few from yesterday on the D3 and D300 forum. They were all taken with a D2H. I'm still waiting for my D3 and tried a D300 in a store last week. The store manager was set back by what I did in the store. I had a little boy looking in glass cabinet while mom looked at camera's and the ressults with a Sigma 80-200 were stellar. I almost wanna by The D300 while waiting but want the full frame even more.

Here's a few shots and I know the little girl is under exposed but with kidds they don't give you the time to adjust. http://www.pbase.com/vows/wedding_4&page=all

Thanks for looking, Fred

Bravo Fred. Very nice subjects and background. I still use the D2H for the fantastic colors.

Glad you liked. It's always been a good camera. I have a question that maybe you might know. I noticed that when using the sb800 in ttl mode ity seems to somehow get changed to AA or auto or another mode alot. Not sure if its me bumping it somehow or some other [problem.

Thanks , Fred

Fred,

I can't think of any scenario except accidentally bumping the Mode button on the SB800. A friend on mine used a Custom Bracket for portrait and landscape orientation. Each time he rotated the camera, he would somehow manage to bump some button and activate an unintended mode of operation.

I bet thats it. Right infront of me and I didn't realize what you just said. I feel blonde. Thanks for mentioning that . It woke me up.

Thanks. They were a fun group. I have a bunch of groups and ones like the girls curling little ones hair etc. Whenever i setup a spot for bride I just add whoever in those after her shots are done. Just wish the groom would be at house too.

It's a shame when you get great stuff of the bride and bridesmaids and by the time the groom is in shots its dark and they have no time. (what else is new)

Thanks again Bill, Fred

Everything was done in Nikon NX for the wedding work. Once it gets a painted look then it goes to PS.

As far as saturation. Some of the shots had had a little added. Very low numbers like 3-6 added.

Do they look over done or ?

Thanks, Fred

Forgive me but I don't do wedding work but how do you get the "painted" look?

I don't think they look over done at all.
Thanks, Fred

I think they are great. You have a nice "look" to your photos.

But personally, the vignetting ON EVERY SINGLE PHOTO gets a bit tiring. (to me)

No your photos do not look overdone at all. I think they look great.

I use a 5D and really have to PS the photos to get good sat, but yours look natural.

It's all in the lighting Bryon. Here is an example of Amanda with Violin. The first picture is how I shot it and the second picture is one done by my photoshop mentor Scott Deardorff.

I try to get the image to look painted with soft sculptured light and then when you add a vignette or some PP it adds to having that painted look.

Also notice the almost perfect Rembrandt lighting. Rembrandt Lighting when done right will give it a painted look if done with soft light.
Thanks , Fred

Thanks. As far as vignette, Its a matter of each persons taste. I use to have a vignette on my lens for each shot. It was a small amount of it and I felt added an extra dimension to the image.

I don't do it to every image with the same amount but the ones I put online are usally a handfull of my favs. I do this to give the couple a little taste of the images while they wait for thier work. I hold back on some of the really good ones so that they still have the wow effect when they see the rest.

After they recieve the images I put a few more on then use that as a place to keep images for future clients to view or to post here on DPreview.
These images usally have the vignette but not the rest.

Thanks for looking, Fred

Thanks Dave , Glad you liked them. Like to hear the comments they look natural.

It lets me know I'm not over doing it. If alot of people said they looked overdone then I know I better tone it back a bit. Posting images helps that way the most.

These shots are beautiful.

Thanks Fred. Are there any tutorials or references you point to in regards to these effects and how I might learn them myself?

Fred,

Beautiful as usual! You're going to love the D3 when you get your hands on one. It is different though from the D2H--more saturation in the 'standard' picture style (but you can upload the 'D2X modes' to better mimic what you're used to.

Keep up the good work and it's great to hear from you again.

Sean

(PS I sold my 200 f/2 VR and picked up a second D3 for my 'assistant' ;-) ).

...upon your already admirable photo taking skills, Fred. Shall we be expecting a PP monster soon? :)

Some really good stuff, sir.

Cheers.
