Hi All,

I am looking for some sort of backup solution that I can take with me on site and as sson as one CF card finishes ill back it on some external drive without using laptops any recommendations any links would be even better.

Many thanks

I'd vote for the Epson P5000 - works well for me. It allows me to show the client what has been taken in the "view CF card' without starting up a laptop.
I used a Flashtrax years ago but the Epson is loads better.

This has also been discussed MANY times on the forum.

Try the NextoCF. Just a bit larger than a laptop hard drive, will take any size HD (you supply), inexpensive (approx $150). Has a slot for CF card. Turn unit on, insert card, press button and pics are copied. Copies extremely fast, as it both reads and writes simultaneously. No viewer for pics, tho.

Search these forums for it, search Google for it. Has many positive reviews. I have one and love it.

--With some laptop prices as low as $450, and having more uses than backing up, the laptop gets my vote. Bigger screen for showing pics, and can display RAW files too. I know this will not suit everyone, but just adding another opinion.

I used the P-2000 before moving to the Jobo Giga Vu, it can display RAW files but I think this is a common feature.

What I like about the Giga Vu is it can back up to an small external drive like a firelite or the Giga One (no screen but nice and cheap and also acts as a back up downloader).

You can back up during the day to the Giga Vu, and then at the end of the day back up to the Giga One, you can then have 3 copies of the files before you get back to base or you can wipe the cards if you need to shot again with them before getting back to base.

I know that this may not be responsive to your inquiry, I still prefer a laptop. I burn 8 gig DVDs after I review the RAW files on my Sony Vaio's 15" lovely display. I wouldn't have it any other way.

The only downside on laptop is a weight as I already carry 15 kilos on my shoulders dont want to add another 3-4!

--Don't carry the laptop, leave it where you sleep. Cards are cheap, so buy enough for a day's shooting and download them at night.
