My friend who is in Japan just sent me a pic of my new D60 that he got yesterday for me!

Anyway, I am receiving the cam on Monday so now I need a lens. A local dealer that I trust has a 28-105 in stock for $260. Is this a decent lens? I really wanted the 28-135, but he doesn't have it.

Any input on the 28-105 USM?

Thanks,

Brian

Type "28-105" into the search box and click ok. You will get 1000's of posts.

I am no guru on the 28-105 ... but it has been talked about a lot here. In fact THRASHED to death here :)

Personally I'd wait and get the 28-135IS

IS is great for taking photos while under the influence of alcohol.

....and also every other circumstance.

Joking aside, while the 28-135IS isnt perfect in my humble opinion it is a lot better than the 28-105

have fun whatever you do!

Photodo.com give the 28-105 a 3.3/5 rating while giving the 28-135 a 3.5/5. Obviously the IS would be nice. 3.3 seems to be about average for non-L lenses.

Thanks for all the help, I'm not sure what to do now. Either get the 28-105 and start shooting right away or wait with my new toy for a few days!

Just get the EF 50 1.8 while you wait for the IS lens, it's quality at a bargain price that will give you good results.

The 28-105 USM was the prime lens that Rick Samon used for years to shoot all types of shots, and don't think he would have used it for his go to lens if it wasn't up to snuff. Think he now uses the 28-135 IS which has gotten a bad wrap as well. I even used the 28-105 for 6 or 7 years myself and was quite pleased with the results of people shots, and yes some detail could have been better toward the edges, but hey that wasn't the subject of the photo in the first place.....robby
