Well I made it to the zoo with the UZI today and had a ball.
I love that camera so much.

My daughter and I took 350 pictures and I learned a lot about the camera some of the things it can and can't do.

Here are some of the better ones.

Excellent pics Bill!
What settings did you mostly use for these close ups?
BTW which zoo was this? Thanks.
Best regards.

Bill, there are a few names that stand out in this forum for having consistently great photos. You have continued your reputation with these.

Some of these shots are really good. Very sharp. Are they handheld or using a tripod? If handheld, you have a very steady hand!

Nice shots there Bill. That little guy in the first one is really cute. That 10x zoom really comes in handy for situations like those.

I'm just back from your gallery.
WHAT A TREASURE TROVE!

I'm usually happy if I get one of two good pictures on an outing. You have so many truly outstanding pictures in this collecting that it is astounding!

I scribbled down some of the numbers of pictures that stood out...but I could have written down a lot more.

The sharpness, detail in the fringes of fur, selective focus, color...are testimony to the capability of the UZI and your photographic skill.

P5161799 of the waterfall has peak lighting! The movement in the water and the exposure are perfect.

The orang pictures are particularly touching...although it might be cropped a bit, the family group of mother and two babies is precious.
I like the tension I see in the two chimps, number ending in 2001.
Thanks for sharing these wonderful images with us!
By the way, what zoo is this?

Great pictures Bill :) I'm on my way to the gallery, but I'd like to ask, what are some of the things you found that the camera "can't do"?

Just about everything was done with the P setting, and the zoom to get the get the framing correct.

I had the camera for the first half of the day and my 19 year old daughter had it for the other.

The only one that was on a tripod was the waterfall.

When I had my 35 I was taught to use 2 hands and hold my left arm tight against my body, setup the picture, take a deep breath and hold it, then snap the shot. But I think most of it was the IS.

I should have said the camera can do it all, it is the operator that needs to learn how.

One if the big ones is TAKE YOUR TIME.

To start glass is very hard to work with. If you can not get the shot with the lens touching the glass the odds are you won't get it. If you can not get the lens on the glass then make sure the angle is very large.

Heavy wire cages are almost impossible to shut thourgh with auto focus and I am not good with the manual focus on the UZI. I am going to have to learn to use it. I sure wish I had a ring to turn.

What looks good in the LCD does not mean it will look good on the paper or screen.

Keep in mind the light and where it will be later in the day, you may just want to wait and come back when the light will be at a better angle.

And TAKE YOUR TIME.

Make sure you stop and eat lunch before you get a headache.

This is a very sad photo for me to watch... In my recent years I have come to hate zoos... I know they serve a purpose to an extent and certainly the ones like the Ft Worth Zoo that try to give the animal an environment like the animal's natural setting at better than start cold and bare cages.

This photo of the bald eagle...the bird that respresents power and freedom brings tears and anger to my soul...

You truly captured this very well in your photo...

Great work Bill...the eyes of this magnificent creature tell it all...
