F11 iso1600

can i see some F31 pics that beat this please.

i think this F31 craze kinda missed the F11, Cos i think the F11 kinda beats the F31.

can i see some F31 pics retaining this detail at iso1600 ?

I owned both,

I did some comparison in the past and to me the F31 was slightly better at high iso than the F11.

Up to ISO 400 not material difference, at ISO 800 F31 has better saturated color and managed to hold slightly a little bit of fine details, it needs less PP applied.

The big differences are the following though:

1) Much better exposure, it protects the highlight. The Fuji F11 was more prone to expose for the shadows.

2) Exposure compensation button.

3) A/S mode

Again show me the F31 is better, I think the F11 is the king, show me the F31 is better ?

While the F11 is no doubt a good camera - I had one and liked it alot. You may think it can't get any better than that -but- the F31fd would have done even better detail wise with that shot and with even less shadow noise. If I had an F31fd (sold mine a few months back) I'd post some images. But here's some from Hershey, PA when I had mine (all handheld at ISO1600):

cmon then !,

lets see those water colored pics lol.

Don't fight over this guys, All Fujis deliver great colors as I'm seeing by these candy wrappers.

No argument here Barry - that was not one bit my intention. All I'm saying is that Fuji has improved (IMO) their already good F10/F11 with the F20/30/31 (especially the F31 due to a bit less NR and added FD) Even the F40/50 are still decent even at higher ISO's... Matt

completely agreed with you,

as I already said in another post, the difference in not so much in the image quality but on the light meter (much better on the F31) and the exposure compensation button (ready available).
To be honest my F11 at ISO800 experienced some banding, but the F31 do not.

Look at the detail retained at the very top of the lamp by the F31, and the slightly banding of the F11. The color are more saturated for the F31, but in this case this is due to -1 underexposure of the F31 compared to F11. In another shot I made the saturation was better for the F31 anyway.

The light meter is much better for the F31 as well.

that it got lost in the shuffle. I was lucky to find one later last year from Japan Grey market and I love it. There are a few improvements with the F3x series, but still the lovely colors are nice from the F11, I like mine so much I am afraid to use it too much so I do not wear it out! :)

The F11 actually did have A/S priority. The F10 did not. But add white balance to that list as well... the F10/11's auto WB was real bad, especially in low light; as unpredictable as the F30/31's white balance can be it was a major improvement.

The F11 is a great camera (I owned one). When the F30 and F31 came out three changes were discovered:

1. The F31 has beter metering (better than the F30 also). Getting the correct exposure with the F11 wasn't always easy, and there is also no way to check it. The lcd is pretty useless for checking exposure and there is no histogram.

2. The F30/F31 appear to have slightly less noise at high iso in areas that are exposed the same.

3. The F30/F31 have slightly higher contrast, which pushes shadows more towards black, thereby masking noise.

I would say when you have an F11 and are happy with it, the improvements of the F31 in noise are not worth trying to move up. The improvement in the metering may be the only argument to consider an F31. But you have to live with the higher contrast if you do move. I preferred lower contrast which you get in portrait setting (at the expense of more shadow noise).

Slowly learning to use the DRebel (only around 32.000 shots) and now also the Fuji E900 and Canon G6.

I tryed out the F30 and F31, and turned em bought back.
In my book the F11 is a winner, and so far the peak of Fxx.

First of all ISO80 – Very Fine detail, works great in sunlight, and very true color.

More traditionel design with a good grip and harder LCD.

Faster.

Well ballanced NR – For sensor size.

Make fanboys...

Fuji claims a 20% improvement in sensitivity on F30 over F10/F11. And the claim seems to be verified by the result. I do not have a F11 but I had a F10. The F30 is definitely an improvement in every aspect except the "Made in China" badge.

I can't see how someone else can take an exact photo of YOUR subject and YOUR lighting? That is the only way one could see a photo that beats YOUR photo that you posted.

It's so easy to for you to get this information yourself that you are looking for on this site without having to lay down a type of challenge to people which might be seen as been cocky on your behalf.

.........But here you go, anyway....

The F31 DOES display more detail, but it is due to stronger sharpening compared to the F11. So it's a case of picking your poison.

It's not a case of what camera beats what. The lens is the same, the sensor is the same.... so the data that it captures onto the sensor would be nearly exactly the same. It's the processing that is different and that is down to a PERSONAL preference to the type of user.

If you want to have less noise you could PP the F10/11 to have less noise but at the expense of being slightly less sharp or crisp. But if you don't PP which would equate your average joe soaper, then they can have a little more noise which won't be seen on their 7x5s prints, but will have a slightly crisper look to their photos which they would welcome more.

So basically, if you want to go to print straight from the camera, then the F31 is the camera that may suit better. And if you are a stickler for noise and IQ then you will have more control over the F11 image to back off on the noise a bit. But that's irrelevant IMO. If you are at that stage in your shooting where you are analyzing 100% crops and have become a total IQ perfectionist..... then I doubt if a camera like an F11 at ISO1600 would satisfy your desires at that point.

So IMO, none of the two cameras are winners and none beats the other. Both have evolved in time to accomodate certain type of users. The winner (as always) is the person who has the right camera "for them" that accomodates their type of shooting better.
