It came from outer space! (and landed in the living room)

It's not common here in Trinidad, in fact its the first I'd ever seen, except for in museums, but even a dead one of these monsters was intimidating–Its definitely the largest beetle I'd ever seen. FYI it turned out to be a Harlequin beetle, native to South America and parts of the Caribbean.
what would you do if you found this on your walls?
OMG, what the Heck is that thing!?!?!?

Tom L.
Actually, he's a very attractive beetle. His legs seem kind of out
of proportion to the rest of him, though. Are they common in your
neighborhood?
I like bugs.

Looks like all you got are novelty pictures. It's such a beautiful beetle, you should've taken some serious shots.

yeah I thought it was beautiful too,

a co-worker brought it in–dead, she killed it, and was roundly criticised by all for destroying such a magnificent insect, but I guess seeing something like that inside your house late at night would cause such a rection

gee, I am terribly sorry, but anything with that many legs puts me into spider fright, and I am sure I would be taking my swiffer sweeper and squishing it, your very brave to hold that thing in your hands, I dont suppose even if it were dead I would have the nerve to touch it. lol, nice shot though:)

Vix...

I collect and would love to add him to my collection! He is absolutely spectacular!! We have nothing even close to that in Chicago. One of the small blessings of snow and cold half of the year!

You should spread his legs (if he's not too dry already) and pose him on some tree branches then take some shots. If he's dry you might be able to make him pliable again by placing him in a sealed jar on some wet paper towels.

Very cool... Stever

OOOOOHHH no you don't there buddy. We don't want those creepy looking things anywhere near Chicagoland.

Next thing you know there'll be some strange "X-Files-style" incident where this thing spontainiously reproduces after it dies and eats our brains out through our ears while we sleep.

Look at the problem we're having with those ladybug lookalikes. My house is overrun with those buggers because someone wanted to bring them into this area to eat some other critter that was eating their crops.
All joking aside, it's a cool looking bug, but I hate bugs.

LoL Johnny! Those ladybugs are unbelievable - especially in the fall. They bite too - don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!

Man, worse than those is that Chinese Borer thing they found downtown (remember they had to cut like 400 trees down in the city and in 2 suburbs) to kill them all and their larvae! The cops wouldn't even let me have a dead one for my collection. Bah!

Yea they bite! My wife goes psycho with our vaccum cleaner, and she has a evil cackle everytime she sucks one up. We have to spray Raid all over the place at least every 2 weeks to keep them at bay. We are trying to find out what the gestation cycle is so we can stay one step ahead. It just seems like they drink that raid like it's a happy hour cocktail.
Oh yea...Asian Longhorn Beetle...how could we forget those buggers...
