Had a second shoot with the 1DIII during the weekend. Used 35L, 50L, 85LII, 580EXII/Whale Tail Studio (in some shots) and Alien Bees lights in the studio.

Shot RAW + Jpeg and I continue to be impressed with my Portrait Picture Styles settings. In the station the incandescent WB setting was more appealing than the Expodisc one so I used that. In the studio I stuck with Expodisc.

Here's the gallery:

The first few showed plasticy maniquin skin, but the later ones showed better skin processing.

Very nice compositions Jose, but you need to improve on your skin processing....often too much, too smooth, too glowing, too fake/plastic/maniquinn....buy Vogue, Cosmo, FM type magazines and get examples there on proper skin look.

Fine job you have done, as usual.

I think the first few shots are more affected by lighting than processing.

That I agree. :)

Thanks.

Yes, I've been subscribing to Elle and Vogue for the past three years and what I derive from it is that anything goes with regards to skin processing-----meaning there is no wrong answer. And you have various tones there as well---some warm, some a bit green, some a bit red and etc.

I hate plastic skintones myself and IMHO these are far from being plasticky. Actually, I was more concerned with the colour casts as I have two or three sources of light.

I thought the MUA did a good job----nothing over the top.

Now with this shot here, I never touched the skin. This is just pure limited DOF.

Cheers,

José

Differences on opinion in skin processing is highly subjective, to be sure.

As to the 50L, that issue is very objective. ;-)

Regardless, always love to see your work!

The one thing I might suggest in your skin processing, is to use a layer and a mask and leave the eyes out of it...sometimes the faces look goofy cartoonish, and I suspect it might be because whatever you apply to the facial skin gets applied to the eyes too?

Hope to see more of your work ;-)

Hi AL,

I really like this software because I can apply the effects I want without complicated layers and etc.

Thanks for the kind words.

Cheers,

José

Tell me I'm wrong.
Spuddy, I'm glad you said that before I did. The poster who said that this thing has a fabulous figure must have been in jail (solitairy confinement, I suspect) for a very long time.

I showed these shots to my wife (who owns her own advertising agency and is "wordly wise") and her immediate reaction is that this "model" is a bloke. We currently have four friends around for dinner and they unanimously agree.

Also, the photos are not very good.

Does that tool that you wrote off allow you to surgically apply it's effects to an image? Or is it all or nothing? You paint it on? Curious...what if different parts of her skin/body require different parameter values when using the tool? Without the use of a layer and mask I wonder how the tool's effects can be surgically applied.

Bring Chris back...she makes you a better photographer and the Mark lll a better camera ...

Hi AL,

I think the video does a better job in explaining how it works. Yes you can paint, fill, erase and etc.
