Does anyone use Teiffen 2.0x teleconverter(43mm)?

I'm looking for some pictures of Tiffen's 2.0x teleconverter.
Kazutoku, you will find many, many posts and images if you do a search of this forum to find Tiffen 2X. When the first page of results appears, click on "Subject" to the right in the search bar and repeat the search to narrow down the results.

I have the lens and I'm very happy with it. I'll answer any questions I can, but you should do the search and read many opinions to narrow down the information you need.

I hope this helps.

Thank you! Sorry that I forgot search mechanism of this forum.

I post this message form Japan. In Japan, we cannot get the Tiffen lenses at the local shop. But as the Tiffen lenses seem very good, I'd like to see some photo by using Tiffens lenses. If I have questions, I'll post a message here. Then please help me again. See you.

Take a look at my post from this morning showing some shots I took with my new Tiffen 2x: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1010&message=2694075

Unfortunately they're resized to 800x600, but I assure you this isn't to disguise any problems with sharpness or CA with the lens. They look even better at full (or even half) resolution.

Thank you. Nice photos!!
I saw no distortion and false color on the squirrel picture.
The Tiffen 2.0x seems very good to me.

Kazutoku (or anyone else), here is a full size, untouched sample staight from the camera, shot this morning with my G2 and Tiffen 2X. The fire truck had responded to my next-door neighbor's house.

Note that I have sharpness set to low in the camera. I like to do my sharpening in Photoshop. You can read the decals in the windows and even the lettering on the fireman's hat inside the truck. You may save this image, sharpen it and/or print it for your personal use only, if you wish.

nice shot..

i plan to purchase the tiffen 2x lens and trying to figure out if I need a filter for the tiffen lens adapter and telephoto lens. I understand the filter may cause minor vignetting for telephoto, but how about using the filter with the Tffen adapter alone.

Does the filter in this config cause any vignetting.. I hope to use the adapter with a filter to protect the lens.. I plan to purchase the tiffen filter.. any experience with the tiffen filters..

any assist is appreciated..

TopGun, I use the Tiffen adapter only with the 2X and the Tiffen .75 wide angle. I have a Lensmate I use at all other times and I don't have any 43mm filters to test the Tiffen adapter. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that you could probably use one filter without vignetting and that stacking them might cause a problem. But I'm just guessing. Maybe someone else will jump in here.

I appreciate being given a lot of samples.

I really want to buy this Tiffen 2.0x.

Do you know the Internet site where I can buy it?

That's because I live in Japan.

Katzutoku,

I have to ask you a question that is probably none of my business so if you don't answer that is OK.

I noticed that you live in Japan and my question is why are you considering the Tiffen lens over the Canon teleconverter?

The Tiffen lens seems to be pretty good, I borrowed one for the picture I posted to pBase, but the Canon and the Olympus lenses are better. (I apologize to all the Tiffen owners).

If a person is only going to use a telephoto evey once in a while for snapshots, then the Tiffen is a good buy. But if a person is really into picture quality and is going to use the teleconverter often, especially for prints, then the Canon is far superior.

If I lived in Japan, where Canon products are made and where some of the best photography equipment is designed, I would shy away from a lens made in Korea. Nothing wrong with Korea, I'm just saying that Japan produces better photography equipment.

Just a guess... the price and the 2x capability...

This is the reason I am getting Tiffen lenses... and the quality is great... you probably won't find a difference between pictures taken with Canon and Tiffen lenses... if you use them properly!

Sorry Grish,

But you're waaaay off base here. There is definetly a difference. The Tiffens are OK but don't compare in sharpness, color reproduction or contrast to the Canon or the Olympus. Although I'll admit that I've never used the Olympus so I'm only repeating what I've been told by other people and what I've read.

It's almost impossible to judge the quality of a lens from pictures viewed on the Internet. Unretouched, printed pictures taken with the Canon jump right off the page and yell Great lens!! The same picture taken with the Tiffen is a nice picture.

Interesting, you want the Tiffen 2X that isn't available there and i want the Hakuba 1.8X that isn't available in the US. Would you be able to tell me if they are readily available in Japan and that the price would be from a camera shop?

Grish,

go to this web site and I think you will be able to tell the difference. This guy is comparing the Tiffen lenses. In the first picture he has used the Tiffen wide angle lens. In the second picture he has used the G2 without the lens. Notice the difference in colors when looking at the cars and the roofs of the buildings. I think you'll agree that the Tiffen has washed out and dulled the colors. Naturally, the guy taking the pictures is a Tiffen owner and may choose to ignore the difference and maybe it is minor to him. But when you print a picture, especially at 8X10 or larger, the difference is very obvious. http://www.pbase.com/mjsull/widetele

Seems to me that they're not the same picture so i'd imagin lighting conditions were differant and we're comparing apples and oranges.

the colors seemed much nicer on the with and without Tiffen .75 wide angle shots. it would be nice to see a test shot of the same subjuct w/ a canon, olympus and tiffen lens under the same circumstances.

There have been lots of test done and the results printed in several photography publications. The Canon wide angle teleconverter is considered one of the best in the world. The Canon and Olympus telephotos are excellent and about equal in quality.

The older Tiffen lenses are rated very poor. The newer MegaPlus lenses are rated much better.

You have a computer!! Look up the ratings of a product before you buy it or take someone elses opinion about how good it is.
