Folks, here's what we all have been waiting for. I'm totally sold to the D100. I am going to place my order right now. The samples kick ass of what's out there.

Things look pretty good to me. The results seem VERY acceptable all the way up to ISO 1000 range (noise-wise). I can't wait to see what the production model can do!

My god, that shot of the swords at 6400 is amazing. I mean, I wouldn't want to do shooting in that mode unless I had to, but considering the alternatives, noise is quite acceptable for that kind of sensitivity, as far as I'm concerned. (Meaning, yes there's tons of noise, yes it's got some serious contrast issues and some weird shadow areas, but it's also probably crisper and less noisy than a lot of 1600 ASA film I've shot, and two stops more sensitivity to boot!)

Along the same lines, that shot of the marble bust at 1000ASA seems less noisy than a lot of shots I get from my G1 at ASA 50 - yikes! :)

If there's such a wide range of usable ASAs on this camera, does that make faster lenses less important? (Seems to me that for most kinds of work, we could ditch the 1.4 lens and 200 speed film and instead go with a 3.5 at 800, or something like that)

I want one I want one I want one :)

The samples are cleaner than D60's. Is it enough for me to sell my EOS gear? Nop!

Congratulations, Nikon!

Thank you Phil. These images speak for themselves. It's been a long wait but you can tell the folk at Nikon to start the factory working overtime now. The demand for this camera will certainly be wild. I've been reading your reviews since prior to buying my 990 and reviews like this make the decision to spend $2000+lenses+flash+++, easier.

Well... I won't buy a DSRL no matter what brand it is. They are too bulky and all and not necessary for my needs, but I do enjoy looking at the pictures of these high end cameras. Very nice pictures and # 17 of 25, Phil's your wife I presume, is a great shot of her. Yeah no matter what the flaws nor the brand of those DSRL are, at that level the pictures all look darn good to me! This one surely looks like a winner! Oh yes and living in London helps too.... :-) Cheers --- Thanks for sharing.

I am very very impressed. And I think this BETA pictures will make those with little faith in Nikon (of D100 surpassing D60) to recover it again.

Now I own a CP990 and am going for the D100.

Regards.

While not a fair comparision the D100 ISO 6400 seems to behave better than the D1H sample I took. It's cleaner and more usable when resizing down due to more pixels available than the D1H.

Comparing photo 7/25 (the 'stained glass'?) to the equivalent D60 shot, the D60's shot still looks better. But photo 4/25 ('bust') to the equivalent D60 is very close resolution wise.

The surprise is the the D100 photos were taken at iso 400, whilst the D60's were taken at iso 100/200. Not to mention the lens differences.

I think the D100 is shaping up very well at higher isos.

Perhaps worth noting is the fact that the lenses used to capture these images are not Nikon's best and yet they look incredibly good.
