I'm curious (anyone else curious?) about the longevity of digital cameras since reading about a possible 20,000 picture MTBF rating on the shutters of the E-xx series. I don't even know if my UZi has a leaf shutter like the E-xx series.

I'm not likely at my current rate to run up 20,000 pics in what would likely be considered to be the average lifetime of a camera. What do people here consider to be the average lifetime anyway? (I have an OM-1 film SLR that I bought used in 1981 and it still works great!)

I take WAY more shots with my digital camera than I ever did film, but still, I mainly use my digital for family snapshots (about 110 shots at my son's first b-day party a couple weeks ago) versus creative photography, so I don't take a huge number of shots compared to most here (2 kids under 3yo...so not a lot of free time...though I hope to get out there more).

C-2100, 13 months, approx. 2500 shots, no problems

Still working well, but has begun to develope hot pixels at 2 sec.

Hi Joe,

I can't answer your question about longevity on the E series, but I have shot over 14,000 photos with my 3030z and about 8500 with my 2100z and neither show any performance problems. There may be some hot pixels, but I find that I am always going to have to do some final editing on any "keeper shots" so they are not a real problem if they show up.

There have been a couple threads like this and I always wonder at all the positive replies. I have read hundreds of problems on this forum yet it seems that no one wants to bring them up in these survey's.

I have had a C-2100 for about 6 months. It developed a blue blob in the EVF after about 2 months. I will be sending it in soon.

I just bought a C2000 about a month ago and it had a stuck pixel from the get go. It to will go back soon. (This was an Olympus refurb)

Please don't get the wrong idea I think that both camera's are great especially the UZI but Olympus camera's are not without problems. All one needs to do is look back over the last year or so and read the number of units that have had to be returned.

I have had the c700 for 3 months. I have no idea how many pictures
I've taken - how do you all know?
You can set the counter, on my camera at least, to generate sequential numbers up to some number, kinda like an odometer on a car, before it wraps....I don't have it set up that way...I use the Month/Day/Picture in sequence format....but I got my approx by doing a file count in the folder where all the original pics are stored on my harddrive.

--I didn't know you could change the numbering format - mine does month/day/picture in sequence, and I like it that way. But I delete plenty of pix before they ever make it to my hard drive, so it wouldn't account for those.
