Time lapse accessory for the D80? Intervalometer?

Yet another advantage of IR?

Well, unfortunately you can't do all the same things with it, but it's a good start.

As a sidenote: The 10 pin connection is way better for serious use in
the field. I already broke one ($10) remote for the D80, because it
hooked around my tripod head when I lifted the camera. The plug in
the camera just snapped off. The 10 pin remote resists much more
strain and can be kept on the camera even in the bag.

Frankly, I rather break $10 remote (I have one of these) than have a solid cord connection pull the $3000 + camera out of my hands...

I've been checking out intervalometers for my D40 and also found the Pclix unit near the top of a Google search.

Another one I found is the gentLED auto. This unit is much cheaper than the Pclix.

After digging around both products' Web sites, this is what I've gathered. The gentLED can only be set from 3 to 25 sec intervals in 1 sec increments--or 20 to 240 sec intervals in 10 sec increments. This is not nearly as flexible as Pclix which can be set from 1 sec to 100 hours intervals in 1 sec increments. The Pclix is more complicated to program, but has lots more features such as bulb mode and split-second intervals. Plus the Pclix has more control cable options. So it looks like the gentLED is a simple intervalometer with pre-programmed intervals and increments while the Pclix is totally customizable.

Here are the links for both the products:

I have one and use it without any problems. If you do get it, the only advise is: Do not let it hung from the connection! I have, and while it is still fine, I think that if I was to continue the cable would separate,

Other than that, I do recommend it.

I have a clip on one of the tripod's legs. It's to hold small wrench to adjust tension but neatly holds remote's cable in place so, there is no strain on the connector itself.

I am looking for an accessory, an intervalometer, that will allow me to take time lapse photos with my D80. I've seen some great time lapse photos done with the D200, which has the intervalometer built in, but I have the D80 and would be happy to use an external device that could let me set up the parameters and have it fire the D80.

Anybody know of such a device that works with the D80?

Thanks.
This is what many of us staying in Asia use. Cost around USD$60-70.

You can probably find it in ebay.
