hi i live in the metro area and was wondering where i could buy the s330--nyc, nj, or brooklyn--i don't trust online dealers w/ such big purchases, nor do i trust those schmucky no-name electronics stores in the city (i.e. 44th street electronics) they're a bunch of lying imbeciles--i was thinking more along the lines of a national chain (the wiz, circuit city, etc.) does anyone have any suggestions? thanx

i saw s200 on my local circuitcity here in newjersey but no s330 yet. nothing is wrong with buying online though. i bought mine from CDW.com. amazon.com has them with no shipping free and a free 32mb CF card. i wouldn never buy a $400 item in newyork...tax is too much..ouchh..

i don't like online because if you have a problem it is a hassle dealing with online help--amazon does not have them in stock and i don't want to wait--i don't want to wait for shipping or back order, i prefer walking into a store buying it and leaving--a nice big happy store that will take my Qs when i'm having--yes tax is high but there is no shipping ; )

Over here (Suburbs of Chicago), I saw the S200 at my local Best Buy for 349... same at Target.

yeah, nothing beats the feeling of going home with a big shopping bag with a grin on your face.

Call datavision at:
(212) 689-1111
39th Street & Broadway
New York, NY

but they only give store credit on returns though. check J&Rs return policy if you need one. but im sure you'll be satisfied with the s330 =).

Hi Ilana,

B&H Photo on 9th Ave. & 34th St. (short walk from Penn Station) and Adorama on 18th St. off 6th Ave. (near Union Square Park) are both real camera stores that carry the complete line of Canon digicams. No guarantee that every salesperson is always happy & knowledgable, but the chances are still pretty good. B&H is great to go to just to browse their display cases and huge bag section - it's truly a photo equipment wonderland.

You could also try the chain stores such as Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA - they all have regular sales fliers in the NYC Sunday edition newspapers. The Wiz is a little behind on price competition and unfortunately doesn't offset their higher prices with better service or selection. However, it's a little harder to avoid lying and/or imbecility at the chain stores - although they usually smile as they lie to you and then say, "So, should I ring you up for that?" They're either paid very little or beaten every day at work, or both.

Good luck,
WH

thank you kindly my dear--i am in fact going to B&H tomorrow--so it's good eh? they won't lie and give me refurbished junk will they? hehe

I've ordered photography equipment from B & H and Adorama for a very long tome and have never, never been cheated or taken advantage of in any way.
They are also two of the lowest priced, reputable, dealers in the country.

most excellent! thank you, i feel a lot less hesitant/reluctant now : )

Ilana,

I envy anyone like yourself, who lives close to the NYC area. If I lived there I think that I would spend a lot of time in the Photography stores. Naturally, I'd probably also spend much more money than I should.

I think you'll love the S330! You'll love it more if you can snag some extra memory, though - the 8mb card is kind of a joke.

For future reference, since you probably won't get to read this until you're done w/B&H - you'll probably want to get higher capacity CF as one of your first accessories. CF is usually more expensive at B&H, Adorama, & J&R - online has the best prices for CF, but if you want to buy from a store, then look for sales & rebates at CompUSA. You never need pay more than US $0.50/MB for CF nowadays, and most brands run at about the same speed on the Elphs.

Let's see: B&H website says $430 for the S330 + 128MB CF package; $380 for S330 alone. That means you got the 128MB CF for $40 - $0.31/MB - good deal!

Sounds like you're all set - shoot and be happy!

you can take 128 pics on a 128mb camera. btw whats the direction to the B&H and how does it look like? any known landmarks near it? i live in jersey and i want to make a trip there.

enjoy your new s330...make sure you get extra batteries for it. coz you will need it.

Good recommendation to get an extra battery - maybe one of the higher capacity 3rd party ones.

B&H Photo is at 9th Avenue and 34th St., halfway between the Jacob Javits Convention Center and Madison Square Garden/Penn Station - convenient to all modes of transportation.

If you're driving, just come on in to Manhattan and get to the Javits where you should be able to find decent parking. B&H is a 5 minute walk from there: 9th Ave. at 34th St. - takes up the whole block; entrance is in the middle of the block.

If coming in on PATH to Penn Station, get out to 34th St., then walk West away from the Empire State Building until you get to 9th Ave.

If busing in to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, you end on 8th Ave. and 40th-42nd St., depending on which exit you use. You can then walk the 8 blocks to 9th & 34th, or grab a local bus or cab.

You could have a great all-day outing if you want: B&H in the morning, then head over to Bryant Park behind the NY Public Library on 5th Ave. & 42nd St. for a nice outdoors lunch, then an afternoon of picture-taking in Manhattan. (Though it's amazing how many hours can go by at B&H...)
