Just ordered this camera. Now I need to get some cards to go with it. Does the 6000 take advantage of the H xd cards in any way? Are they faster when you take pictures or just when you download them to your computer? Anybody know a good place to find some cheap? I'll need several as I plan to shoot raw and I can only get 152 photos per 2G card. I take lots of pictures when I'm traveling which is when I plan to use this camera. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ann

I decided to order xd H cards and now I'm glad I did. I plan to take
RAW images and will be taking some movies as well on my trip. Than
you so much for the pointer to the thread on xd cards!

I also just switched to the H-xD card and I took some RAW shots this morning that, I swear, the recovery time for the camera was about 3 seconds. Much faster than the 6-7 seconds with the M-xD card that I originally used.

I got mine from Amazon for about US$40.94 (shipping included). It was from digitalmediaoutlet.net. It is an official Fuji card, not a knock-off.

This will make taking RAW shots much more enjoyable since the waiting time is down to an acceptable level.

Edit, The $40.94 was for a 2 gig card.

I agree about the 3 second RAW. Lastnight I tested the S6000 with my Type H card. Set the shutter to 1/30 sec. Low light, indoors using the long end of the zoom. From press of the shutter to recovery of the live preview on the LCD was 2.5 - 3 seconds. Not bad. Perhaps noteworthy (as mentioned in the link in this thread) I format the card in camera often.

Interestingly I put the Type M card that I use in my F20 into the S6000 and it took the same amount of time.

Here is a pic of my Type H. Made in Korea. My Type M is from Japan.

Thanks for the info. I never thought to go BACK to the M-xD to see if there was a difference. I'll try that. Go from M to H then back to M and time the results.
Data to be submitted later today.

Specs, 2 gig M-xD (fuji), 2 gig H-xD(fuji), and an S6500fd. I will also look to see if the xD cards are both made by the same manufacturer even though they both have the Fuji stamp on them.

Hmmm ... seems the time from press of the shutter to the camera coming back to live view is the wrong way to look at how fast the card is. I am unable to take the next shot until the orange light to the left of the viewfinder goes out. The wait time from shutter to next pic slows to between 7 - 8 seconds with the Type H and 9 for the Type M.

Ok, I previously was using the orange light to the left of the view finder as the timing indicator - so that hasn't changed.

Here are the results from three different cards (S6500fd, set to RAW, Normal, Auto)
taking a photo of the same object from the same distance.

2 gig H-xD Fuji branded card made by Samsung, write times of 3.5 seconds.
2 gig M-xD Olympus branded card made by Toshiba, write times of 7.0 seconds.
1 gig M-xD Fuji branded card made by Toshiba, write times of 6.5 seconds.

It didn't matter the order the cards were used or how many pics were taken on each. All cards were formatted in the camera as recently as last weekend, just a few days ago.

The H card was dramatically faster than the other two. The 1 gig Fuji seemed to be a hair faster than the 2 gig card also made by Toshiba but branded by Olympus. It looks like the branding may make a difference since the Oly cards are supposed to be able to support Panoramic files from Oly cameras.

I'm sticking to the H card as the hands down winner for RAW formatted pics. I would also assume that the video support of the card will also be improved although I have no idea how to test that other than take a ton of video and bring it up to see if it's fluidity changes from card to card.

I'd like to see some testing from other members here to see if they can discern speed differences from make to make, brand to brand and type to type.

When I get home I may try this test with the S700 but I doubt I'll see a difference since I won't be shooting RAW, but maybe burst shooting will be quicker?

Trust me, you won't see much difference using the "H" card on your s700, I've tried it and it wasn't worth the extra money. Same thing goes for the s8000.
